Nice looking classic. What is the Warner engine size and HP, and what propeller, diameter, and pitch are you using? You should make the aquaintance of Al Rice over in Meridian, ID. He also flys a 24W around the back country. I believe he's a pilot for the U.S. Department of the Interior on his day ...

Re: 337's dated before 10-1-55

On a more uglier note, the FAA guy said the field approval for my 8:50 tires only covered the original installation (done in the 80's) and does not cover replacing the tires with the same tires (which would need a new 337?). Also to put 6:00 back on will a new require a 337. Go figure? Got to love ...

I just reread this column from the AvWeb site and have copied a couple of paragraphs pertinent to the discussion here. June 30, 1999 Pelican's Perch #19: Putting It All Together In recent columns, John Deakin has explained all you need to know — and more than some of you wanted to know — about ...

GA, I lean the 0-300/C-145 at all altitudes and power settings. It isn't that difficult to pull the mixture out untill it stumbles and then push it in a wee bit. And OBTW, the smooth transitition from idle to cruise jet is accomplished by the accellerator pump. With out it, the best adjusted carb wil...

Doesn't anyone else use "Pep Boys" house brand detergent oil??? I wouldn't use it in my airplane engine. (But I have to admit, I can't find any reason, either documented or not, why automotive non-detergent oil can't be used to break in an airplane engine. .) The reasoning is simple auto ...

There are 2 ways for fuel to get out of the float bowl of a MA-3/4 carb. that is thru the mixture valve, and the accellerator pump.

Both Idle Cut off, and all mixture is accomplished by the mixture control valve. Idle cut off is the same as saying the valve is fully closed.

""In other words, ALL fuel going to the engine, whether through the idle system or the main nozzle, gets metered by the mixture control. ""

If it didn't, how would you secure the engine with the mixture control?

""I very much agree with an earlier post that a crankshaft freshly reground to .010 under, with new .010 undersize bearings is a better situation than having a crank at or near service limits with new standard bearings. The clearances are obviously tighter in the former case, but can it be...

Read FAR 43.2 then read the overhaul manual for any engine, there is a portion of the manual that gives tolerances, one column will give the new limits and one will give service limits. all machines are built to tolerances, such as a 2" measurment will have a new limit tolerance of 1.999" ...
