tow lugs & eyebolts

George Thank you for your response. Sorry to "rat" your supply. I actually ordered (and received) 2 of each item - the other set for a friend who is rebuilding a C170A - because of JTACOs minimum order requirement of $60/order and $20/item. I would have taken up your purchase offer but for...

C170 towbar

I have just fitted the towing lugs and tailwheel eye bolt to my C170A which were purchased from JTACO. The price was as advertised - LH $12 RH $18 Eyebolt $21 - the killer was the freight to Australia - $165.56. Now comes the task of building the tow bar. In an earlier post in this topic George offe...

Throttle Control

Dave, Karl Thanks for the info. I checked out the Aircraft Spruce site http://www.aircraftspruce.com/nsearch.php?s=throttle+control They have part # AS0411091-2 for $237.95, or a generic throttle control part #A-800-12 for C150/152/172 (but do not include C170 in their list) for $110.95 PS The price...

Throttle Control

My throttle control has been giving problems by sticking at low power settings - not what you need if a bit more power is required on short final :!: The throttle friction bushes were badly worn and have now been removed. This has solved the sticking problem to a large extent but now there is no thr...

C170 max xwind

The maximum crosswind component for my aircraft (a C170A) as listed in its Flight Manual issued by the Australian Department of Civil Aviation is 15 Knots (approx 17 mph), however, I agree with previous responses that suggest the limiting factor is not the aircraft but the pilot; but when you run ou...

Towing Lugs

I enquired to JTACO about towing lugs a couple of days ago. Here is their reply:

Hello David,

0641102-1 $12.00 stk

0641102-2 $18.00 stk

Regards,

Franco Gaiga

I will be getting a set.

Fuses

I'm having the same problem locating replacement fuses. :(
The fuses the Auto shop had were designated 3AG. Could your AGS be AG5?
Someone out there must know we can get some (fuses). :)

Door Off Ops

I have a Flight Manual Supplement issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (our version of FAA) entitled "Operations with a Door or Window Removed" that permits door off operations with certain conditions (which must be placarded in the aircraft). These include airspeed limitations (1...

Refuelling steps

Edgar,

I have had these installed on my C170A.
The parts came (second hand) from an early model C172.
My aircraft mechanic installed them with a minimum of fuss and now they look like they have always been there. 8)
Don't forget the footrest thingeys for the struts.
They work well. :D

I may get shot down in flames here as I have not consulted the text books and this is all off the top of my head, but .... It seems to me that if you LOWER the training edge of the main wings you are INCREASING the incidence angle. This may have the effect of making the aircraft fly slightly nose lo...

Puttin legs on that move the wheels further ahead of the CofG will make the aircraft more directionally unstable because: 1. the CofG will effectively be further aft and so the centrifugal force will have more effect, and :( 2. there will be more keel surface area aft of the pivot point (main wheels...

Flying on Trim and a Prayer

Flying on trim and rudder only works! I have seen it done. This is a true story. A long time ago, in a land far, far away (PNG) a pilot (not me!), running late for an early morning flight, did a very perfunctory pre-flight, jumped in, started up, taxied to the runway and opened the throttle. The C18...

Mufflers

My C170A S/N 19090 has H&W mufflers and the unsightly bumps on the cowl. I checked the size of the mufflers - they are approx 12" long and 6" in diameter. The holes in the cowl where the exhaust pipes exit appear to have been moved. There is a reinforced hole in the centre lower rear o...
