Re: Tachometer inop / irregular

I wondered if that might be it.

Any tips/tricks to lubing the cable? What lube is preferred?

Thanks,

Tachometer inop / irregular

Went to fly the ragwing pre-annual last week and the tach went nuts on startup. I have a video which I can try to link, but basically the needle was all over the place, from zero to redline and beyond and just completely irregular. Any tips for troubleshooting this? Is it more likely the instrument ...

Re: Qtr 3 news / N3950V

Thanks for the info, George.

Mine is stock, with stock fuel line routing and the fuel pump in place.

I thought it was interesting to see an airplane with serial / tail numbers right next to mine! Maybe we'll meet up at a convention sometime.

Qtr 3 news / N3950V

I just read the article in the Qtr 3 news, and saw the write up about the ragwing fuel pump.

Does anyone know if Leslie Partridge participates in the forums? His ragwing, s/n 18269 N3950V follows mine by one number, s/n 18268 N3949V.

Re: What’s my 170 worth

Thanks for the input.

Based on George’s numbers, I’d probably be at ~37K or so, I do not have ADS-B or any fancy electronic stuff. Just an old radio and transponder.

I’m gonna ask just to see what the price difference is. I’ll post numbers for followup once I hear back.

What’s my 170 worth

I’m asking for insurance renewal ... 1948 Ragwing, ~200 SMOH, ~3000 total time. It’s painted, fabric is ~15 years old but always hangared and in great shape. No mechanical issues. Full interior (replaced at refurb ~15 years ago). Panel is near stock, has an single radio and transponder. Otherwise pr...

Re: 1948 C-170 muffler / exhaust cracks

So I got the part from Preferred. I thought it connected to the brackets at the shroud, but it is too short: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49990059032_96aaa21daa_c.jpg Does it attach down here, with other clamps? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49990059057_82d4a21447_c.jpg Overall the whol...

Re: 1948 C-170 muffler / exhaust cracks

I was referring to the service kit diagram, SK 70A51-1 Hanlon Wilson muffler installation 170 & 170A

So, will p/n 0550179-1 work for this application on my C-170?

This stuff gets awfully confusing...

Re: 1948 C-170 muffler / exhaust cracks

So, the new mufflers have been received and fit up nicely. No issues with the cowl exit. One issue. The diagram for the Hanlon-Wilson modification references a support bracket. This is #5 in the diagram. I did not have any bracket / support on the old pancake mufflers. I discussed with Charlie Feld,...

Re: 1948 C-170 muffler / exhaust cracks

Thanks for the info; how did you make the adjustment? Did it have to be sent back to AWI?

I was thinking we might have to mod the cowling (cut holes / patch stuff), but if a small mod to the pipe is acceptable that would be easier (and cosmetically better).

Re: 1948 C-170 muffler / exhaust cracks

So I am communicating with Charlie Feld at AWI; based on the pics of my system, he is not 100% sure the exhaust pipes will exit without cowl modifications. He suggested checking with the Association for input. Can anyone who has done this on a ragwing comment? Do the pics above provide any reference...

Re: 1948 C-170 muffler / exhaust cracks

The outer part of the heat muff has been removed. This is the inside part. Does anyone have pics of the inside of this, or an exploded diagram? It is welded around the edges, and riveted to the exhaust pipes. you can see some blow-by where the riveted area is. Depending on what the inside is like (h...

1948 C-170 muffler / exhaust cracks

The ragwing is in for annual. Unfortunately I am not participating as I normally do due to the damn virus. In any case, my friend the A&P found cracks in both mufflers. C-145-2H: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49920866338_fe30d618e9_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49920866743_e346...
