Re: KLIPTIP prop, prop bolts, spinners, and cruise speed
This topic brings up a new development in Props. I had a 1948 C170 with the C-145-2 (O-300) motor and metal prop with skullcap spinner. After purchasing a majority interest in a large volume MT Propeller distributorship, I looked to see if I could put an MT Natural Composite Fixed Pitch Propeller on...

How to Do a Proper Groundloop
How To Groundloop Your Taildragger Judging by how frequently it is performed, the Groundloop is indeed a popular maneuver. The Groundloop is an extreme low-level figure that is highly acrobatic in nature, which may be executed in many exciting variations. It is customarily performed as the last figu...

EGT / CHT
My EGT took a dump. I will use this as an excuse to replace it with a combo CHT/EGT. Current EGT probe is on the rearmost pass side exhaust stack. Two questions: Which cylinder should I place the CHT probe on (O-300 on a '47 C-170)? Wag Aero has two metric sizes available, Which size do I order to p...

Tye, It seems all the costs are involved in renting test facilities, hiring engineers to evaluate and report on test results, needed to satisfy the FAA's engineers. I will ask if he has to also pay the FAA to read and evaluate his proposals. Remember, you can put one on, but you would need to declar...

My MT source owns STC's for nearly a dozen A/C to use the MT prop. Each one took nearly 18 mos to get and between 40K-50K. FAA is real picky on tests to grant 337 on props. A tremendous amount of vibration, stress and endurance testing must be done, both on test stands and on actual A/C of the type ...

MT Propeller has a hub for the Cont O-300 / C-145 engine for use with their Electric 2-blade prop. The hub fits the 541 series crank (newer). An adapter is avail for the SA-3 style flange. This prop is 'certified'., but no STC exists. It could be put on and used on a 170 only as EXPERIMENTAL. We wou...

Here is the url of the MT Propeller site that details the operation of their electric props. Still waiting on word of a hub that would bolt to an O-300.

MT Props are laminated wood core that is wrapped in a protective composite. They have done exhaustive dynamic testing and found extremely limited instances of harmonic vibrations (mostly on very high compression, electronic ignition motors). They are lighter, have a much lower polar moment and have ...

I am in business with one of the two US Sales Representitives of MT Propellers (Germany). I will ask Larry about the electric CS they make. If one of tested design from a strong and experienced mfr is avail for the cost of the STC, it should be investigated. BTW, The MT natural composite 4 and 5 bla...

We will most likely have to start a new topic just to discuss the fun of OSH arriival. Start by getting a copy of the NOTAM. It is at the EAA site http://www.airventure.org I have only missed once in the last 12 years. The NOTAM may make it seem more complex than it really is. My tips(IMHO): 1. Come...
