Speaking of Granny's goat barn...

A little off topic, but I couldn't resist!

Re: Advice for major repair

Tough luck on that one. But you are in 'my neck of the woods' :) There's a guy down in New Bedford, Ma., that still operates the old Air Service Caravan! I just saw him just this week to make me a brake cable for my Champ. He still has all the Cessna wing jigs and tooling to fix planes like yours! H...

Re: Sky-tec starter vs Delco Remy starter adjustment and switch

I just got my Sky-Tec kit this week for my Champ. Pulled the 65 and installing a C90. Going on floats so I was concerned about weight (and $$$ 8O ), but I'm happy with it. At least the motor's out and I can work it on the bench. I've got my 3 piece tool kit ready  http://i192.photobucket.com/al...

Re: This should get all the dogs to barking

I was taught that you always position yourself in the pattern to be within gliding distance of the runway in case the engine quit and every landing started by pulling the throttle to idle abeam the numbers and making a power off approach. Now days, if you try that you will get run over by someone m...

Re: 7MA2 Cook-Out/Fly-In

The ice was marginal. It was 7 1/2" thick everywhere I chopped a hole. That's good for a 2 ton gross. The real issue was the wind! We had a wind chill of 13 degrees. Being on the cove that we're at, it has a lot less moving water than out on the open lake. Some winters it's not safe enough to l...

Re: 7MA2 Cook-Out/Fly-In

Nope. O300 high timer. Runs great!!!
I keep beating myself up over this. Runs great, burns no oil, never skipped a beat. Really hate to fix something that ain't broke...
But I know it's going to get that overhaul, I just wish and hope that this economy would pick up.

7MA2 Cook-Out/Fly-In

My wife and I threw a cook out on the lake today. The storm that clobbered DC stayed just to the south of us. But we got quite a bit of wind from it! I brought mine in, and a couple others came and left. It was blowin' pretty good. It 'warmed' up to the upper 20's, and the fire helped. Most of the g...

Re: Battery Installation

I just looked up "gahorn" in the dictionary and here's what I found: "Knowledgeable being capable of keeping all his ducks in a row with a big stick"   But he is right about certified parts in aircraft. No dispute! Cut your corners elsewhere. (PS, I've been doping...

Re: Battery Installation

Dan,
If you haven't already, check the starter pull cable for proper clearance on the solenoid button. Seems like it's making contact before the clutch gear is fully engaged. Or maybe just a little too close.

Re: Battery Installation

Yeah, but all foolin' aside, you know one thing leads to another. I had positioned my plane on the ramp and secured it, but left the engine running at idle because I didn't want the hassle of re-starting it due to the dead battery. I was standing under the wing by the pilots door. BIG MISTAKE ...

I think I'd change this line to:

1. Put old aircraft battery on stump and retrieve 12 gauge shotgun.

Although that's not 'thinking green'

I was all set to use a battery tender until I read a recent post about hanger fires... :|
