Installing a Baggage Door in my 170A

I've located a salvage yard with some older CE172s from which I can get him to cut the area of the fuselage, so I might install a baggage door on my "A". I have two friends in Wichita that have accomplished this with their 170Bs, but it occurred to me there might be differences in the fuse...

Looking for Help on a 170 in Germany

An aquaintance is looking for help in restoring and maintaining a 170B in Germany. He has tried several German aircraft mechanics and of those even willing to look at the project, none have been able to give him much of an estimate to restore the airplane and engine. This fellow apparently learned t...

Door Latches

My A.I. agrees that conversion to the 172 style latches would not require a 337. He cited the lack of structural modification or affecting flight characteristics. The substitution of the CE172 door, with the different hinges might, dependent upon what you had to change (I personally would opt for th...

Door Latches

No offense taken Eric. I was using parts and pieces cannibalized from an old door my A.I. had. The drawing in the parts book was poor enough that I didn't realized some of those parts were "owner manufactured" and did not last. I've got it working again, but getting a good drawing of the i...

Door Latches

Mr. Horn: Do you have drawings, 337s, photos, etc. of your conversion to the 172 type latch?
I just rebuilt the latch mechanism on the pilot's side for the third time and would love an alternative.

Mark what is the price from Cessna?
We have a pretty good machine shop available and I was thinking of making one--mine broke this weekend. It was loose at annual and apparently got caught by a gust at the gas pump (top hinge on the pilot's side)

EGT Probe Installation

George, I just hung up from talking with Cessna--the proper cylinder for installation of the EGT probe is #3 (right middle), at least thru the A models. I did not specifically ask about the B's. They checked the certification data for the cylinder that leaned first and was the hottest. The cert. tes...

I've ordered the Alcor Basic (single probe EGT).

Alcor is merely a manufacturer of an EGT system. A good mfr, by the way, who makes temperature-compensated systems. Their literature is available thru Aircraft Spruce. 877/477-7823 They make both single probe, and 6 probe systems. If you install a single-probe EGT system, it should be installed on ...

Leaning Techniques

Can you elaborate on your "tried & true leaning techniques" and "running too lean"? Also,I think most engine rebuilders caution about leaning too agressively until the top end is broke in. Eric I would lean until I started to get an RPM drop, then richen a couple or three no...

Leaning Techniques or Devices

Well the newly-overhauled engine is running really well, but my old tried and true leaning techniques are causing it to run too lean (6 G.P.H. at 70% power). I discussed installing a CHT or EGT as the solution, but my A.I. is suggesting an Alcor System. Would you guys that that have installed CHE, E...

C-170s at Oshkosh

Where are the 170 owners parking at OSH? (I mean other than those of you who are having your birds judged) I've heard people talk about "The North Forty" but have been told that the 170s tend to park together. Will the people who direct you to parking direct you to where the other 170s are...

Cracked Crankshaft

Well Aircraft Specialties just called and the crank is cracked--probably has been for a while. Any good ideas for sources of serviceable crankshaft for my O-300A.? With new cylinders, a reconditoned cam, etc. this overhaul was already $8000. Suggestions?:(
