Stall speeds

Since it has been 13 yrs since I sold our C170B, can someone refresh my memory of published stall speeds, 0 bank, for 20 and 40 degrees of flaps? I regretfully didn't keep any copies of the manual. Thanks.

Re: Lightweight Starters and Alternators

Has anyone read the Peter Garrison (Melmoth) article "Live and Learn" he authored for the June 2010 Flying Magazine "Technicalities" column? It is about his experience with lightweight starters. He concluded that, after he rebuilt his destroyed starter clutch, the 11 lbs saved b...

Re: Aircraft Brake Fluid

If you want to enhance the safety of your brake system, drain the 5606 from the system, as a fire prone anachronism, and get yourself some much more fire resistant fluid. You can purchase by the quart and/or a gallon at Skygeek. http://www.skygeek.com/royco-782-synthetic-fire-resistant-hydraulic-flu...

Re: IFR 170b

One of the first things I would do is arrange to have the pitot/static system checked. In order to operate an airplane or helicopter, in controlled airspace under IFR, each static pressure system, each altimeter and each automatic pressure altitude reporting system must be tested to insure it meets...

Re: generator to alternator

...I used a circuit breaker for the output that matched the max current for the output wire, which was about 10 amps below the rated output of the alternator, as I had no need for the extra output, and didn't want to have to upgrade the wiring all the way to the panel bus with heavier wire. It work...

Re: generator to alternator

[quote="gahorn"]This is NOT intended as a criticism, but as a constructive critique: Using a C.B. that is smaller than the capacity of the alternator adds risk of complete loss of generated electrical capacity inflight and is not a proper method of limiting alternator output. It also risks...

Re: generator to alternator

Thanks for all the feedback. The engine is indeed a c145-2, not an 0-300. Ok, so lets say I decide to stick with the generator, rebuild or new? If rebuild, any suggested shops or can my A&P/IA do it. Thanks guys.... Bill I dealt with this situation about 13 years ago. The 35 amp generator has a...

Kelly, You are also right about dynamic pressure at the pitot tube. Our problem is: when adjusting the pitot angle, we can get the error to zero out at 100 mph or near cruise flight attitude, but as I increase angle of attack or decrease angle of attack from that point the error begins to increase....

Re: oil

The following is directly from RAMS web sight not Oil Recommendations as I see it. Break-in Oil Break-in procedures should be followed whether replacing one cylinder or six, and that includes using a Multi-Viscosity Mineral Oil such as SAE 20W-50 Phillips Type-M. The minimum break-in period should ...

Thanks guys for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I have done all of the above except fly along side another airplane to compare IAS. I have adjusted the pitot tube angle upwards and downwards. The result of our final "tweaking" of the pitot tube has now brought the spread to 10 MPH lower t...

Good accessory shops will overhaul Bendix, including all SB and AD compliance for as little as $350. Kelly, can you steer me to one of those shops. Even if that is exchange, it's not too bad a deal, relatively speaking. Miles I used Quality Aircraft Accesories Inc. Tulsa. Justin Hicks, owner, toll ...
