I did find one reason for my ratty climb rate today...I looked at the prop hub while the spinner was off during annual, and lo and behold I have a DM7655 while the logbook is listing a DM7651 :? I tracked the serial number down to an entry in 1960 mentioning a prop change, but nobody bothered to spe...

I think the only way I could justify an IO-360 is if one with usable time became available for a reasonable price. As for the Superior engines, when I asked about the legality of installing them in a certificated aircraft, I was told that all the components of the engine carry FAA/PMA numbers and th...

Sat down with my IA today and tossed out the question of an IO-360 conversion. He has a couple of old Israeli T-41 type aircraft with the IO-360 engines out and for sale. But although he was willing to part with one of the engines, the rebuild cost is $22,000 and I found that Continental had a big p...

Well, George you can keep your case of St. Pauli Girl beer! I can report success with the oil leak battle thanks to you. All the NAPA stores were closed for the holiday, but I did find some rubberized fiber gasket material in the proper thickness at Pep Boys, cut my gasket based upon the original wi...

Hey George, I see your not bettin a case of Guiness on that idea...that worries me somewhat :o I'll try almost anything at this point, but what really nags me is why this leak has decided to start with the installation of a new generator??? Why did it not start the other times I had my old generator...

I happen to see in Light Plane MX an article about worn engine mounts throwing off the thrust line and affecting climb and speed. I might look into this. Since my O-300 is coming off this winter, this will be a good time to start looking up the holder of the IO-360 STC, finding a source for the engi...

Since the oil leak is so bad that I don't want to risk the 10 minute flight to the mechanic shop for annual, I am going to try....for the 4th time to remove and reinstall my generator with an oil tight seal. Have not decided whether to use gasket sealer or not this time. Came closest to sealing the ...

Grrrrrr  This morning saw more oil erupting from the generator flange. I transferred this thread over to oil leak in the hangar section....as this is the largest leak I've seen with the exception of a hole in the sump 8O I'm about one step away from throwing the generator in the trash and inst...

My lovely wife has answered the question here as well. She has stated that she thinks I should have the engine overhauled since 33 years have passed since last overhaul and it makes her a bit nervous. She also said while the engine is out, I should have the ship painted. I like her thinking. So this...

This just keeps getting better :o Reinstalled my new generator today taking the tach housing off and using the entire gasket as God intended. Used a moderate amount of Permatex aviation gasket sealer, put the oil back in and went for a ground run. All appeared OK for 10 minutes until I goosed the po...

So the IO-360B is a low compression engine....hummm. So the only potential problem would come from the fuel injection system. The fuel sold around here at COSTCO is ethanol free so I don't have any worries for now. That may change at any time though if the corn lobby has it's way. I don't know how s...

When my internal battery died in my KLN-88 last year, I took it apart to see if I could locate the battery, and never saw it. I've replace many lithium cells in amateur radio equipment, but once I saw the depth of disassembly required on the KLN-88, I sent it to Bevan-Rabell (sp?) and they did a nic...
