Welcome back if not home, Elderblue.
Been to Yellowpine I suppose.
Do you know Lucy Pickle,

Re: 170A auxiliary fuel tanks
My suggetion is that you also look into the Extended Range Tank STC offered by Harry Delicker at Delair. The Extended Range version adds 7.5 gals. per side for an additional total fo 15 gals. 52 total. The system basically opens two row of holes in the outer end of your stock tanks, one on the botto...

Re: 180HP Avcon STC data package
George you may have made a minor error. I have the old "BUSH" conversion in my 170. I even have a full set of documents thanks to Trevor Hoy of AVION Research. (the original panel replacement guy) I did his first promo photos in his 170. I believe that Harry Delicker, at DELAIR, now "...

Seat Rail Stops / Clips
Need a couple more of what I thought were /are stock Cessna Seat Rail Stops. Looked in parts catalog, and it dimly shows what looks like a possible small clevis pin and smaller cotter pin. The dim sketch may show the parts that hold in the part I am looking for. It DOES NOT show the item that fits o...

Re: Larger Tires for a 170B?
First opinion is that if you have a stock 170, then the 800 x 6s are all you should ever need. I have flown in ID Backcountry for several years now, and there are no strips, that I recall, that NEEDED larger tires. Most of them are relatively "smooth", the real problem comes with density a...

Re: air compressor
There is another option, which I use in the hanger.
It is a 15 lb. bottle of C02.
I also have a 5lb bottle that goes with my old 77 IH Scout into the 4x4 backcountry
Google POWERTANK http://www.powertank.com/
NO voltage needed, just a welding supply shop for occasional refills.
Also a LOT quieter !

Re: Preventing a cracked cylinder
I have also added an engine ahalyzer, specifically to track temps. My experience is that the "lean find" mode does not balance the temps as well as I can do by the old process of lean till it coughs, enrichen a bit, and then I can balance 1&2 to mostly match as well as 3&4 to mostl...

Re: Cowling wear strips
Shop heads went on the inside, flush heads on the outside. Now, the strip I am talking about, is inside the cowling and extends out around the hole where the access door rests upon the stip I am talkin about. Maybe ya needs try and post a photo of the strip you have in mind. I know I do not know how...

Re: Preventing a cracked cylinder
I agree with most of what GAHORN has to say with one additional item. I have always been told / taught that the single biggest, PILOT induced cause of blowing a cylinder is detonation caused running TOO LEAN, and being unable to hear the "pinging" as you might in an older car. Newer cars h...

Re: Cowling wear strips
Mine were also badly worn and I replaced them by grinding out the spot welded pieces and then flush rivet in the replacements. Flush riveting can seem to be a bit of an art, but not impossible. This of course all done under the supervision of an AP/AI. per 43.13-b ?!? Not sure I have the book number...
