Door Latch Repair Procedure

Howdy:

Just finished repairing the door latches on both sides of the airplane. Here is a photo gallery and description of the procedure I used.

Re: door latches

Let me make sure I have it. All of the discussion has been about replacing PN 0511119, Spring-Door Handle Return. Right? There is another spring in there, PN 0411554 Spring-Door Latch. It appears to my mind that this spring isn't actually needed to close the latch because the pressure is provided by...

Re: removing prop

Generally, I tend to hold the prop so it doesn't hit the ground. Yes, it is that easy.

Re: Scott 3200 Crack

I guess you could do that George. It is probably cheaper and faster (and more comfort factor) just to replace the darned thing. It isn't that expensive. There has been a memorial erected on the approach end of runway 12 in honor of your experience. It is well camouflaged and closely resembles a fire...

Re: Scott 3200 Crack

Actually, the thing that gave it away was a very obvious fine grease line due to grease oozing out of the crack.

Re: Scott 3200 Crack

I have no intention of finding out how long it will last. New part is on the way. Airplane is grounded.

Scott 3200 Crack

Thought I would pass along this picture of a crack in the Scott tail wheel bracket assembly. Easy to fix, all it takes is time........and money.

It is definitely carbon in the rings. THere was plenty of the crumbly tan lead oxide in the dome of the cylinder, but it was beautiful black carbon (coke) in the grooves. Don't need to debate mogas or MMO or anything else! George - you are missed here at LaPorte - your solo was the most exciting thi...

A few thoughts for you: 1. The pins that hold the caliper could be binding a little. It might be a good idea to pull it apart and clean the holes and the pins real good with scotch brite. When you reassemble them it might help to use some of that silver anti-seize on them. It doesn't seem to pick up...

I use 100LL and Aeroshell 100W plus. The cylinders had about 450 hours on them. Been flying about 50 hours/year (not enough!).

Carbon in the ring grooves

I just pulled the jugs off my continental for some needed repairs. The piston grooves were very heavily fouled with carbon deposits. Anyone else have this in their airplane? Anything to do to prevent it?
