Re: Need Motor
GaHorn your right about that, I will send my dues in right away. Thought I was going to have to sell all my planes and get out of aviation the way taxes hit me this year, then got audited at the same time. Its kinda like having total engine failure at night. Gets your attention fast. By the way, our...

Re: STEAM POWER FOR CESSNA 170
In 1933 the Besler Steam plane was first flown in Oakland California. The boiler was designed by a man named Besler and he put his boiler in a Travel Air 2000 plane. The plane had a two cylinder steam boiler that put out 150 h.p. It could go backwards on the ground by reversing the boiler. If you wa...

Re: STEAM POWER FOR CESSNA 170
Back in the thirty's there were people who put a steam engine in a airplane. It had a coil in the boiler and would make enough steam to fly the plane within a minute or two. They claim it was so silent that you could yell to people on the ground and talk to them. Another claim was that when landing ...

Re: Leaking Wing Sump
I want to thank all of you guys for helping me with changing out the wing sump valves. I will change both sides like you said, and keep a spare on hand. So I took notes and seems to go like this. 1) Push the plane out side away from the hanger 2) set up a stool with all the right tools and parts on ...

Re: Sheet Metal and Paint
On the paint and aluminium repair, give Jason Gerard a call at 206 930 2332. He just started his own shop in Monroe Wash. at the airport. He does great work on planes and has been working on all types for along time. He is very good on Rag and Tube airplanes as well. Nice guy and a good job for a fa...

Re: ADVISE ON BUSH FLYING
One thing that will help you on your short field take off performance is a SeaPlane Prop. It will hurt your cruze speed but does make a differance in short field take off.

Leaking Wing Sump
My wife and I are looking forward to wing camping this year. It will be our first trip camping. While the plane was in the Hanger, I noticed a fuel drip out of the right wing. The drip came from the valve for testing fuel for water. after a day the spot on the floor was about the size of a 50 cent p...

Re: Lycoming O-360 Conversion TBO
Hi jaime Jr. Cub Builder and I have the same friend that lost his 180 in a SuperCub pulling a banner. It looked like some one welded everything together in the engine. Due to oil contamination (metal) cam lobe was round. If I were you, I would look at the 170B with the 180 h.p engine. Thats a great ...

Re: Shortfield Takeoff Technique
I live near Snohomish Washington, We put on a SuperCub flyin every year at Cascade air park. The grass strip is 3000' long and like a lawn. We have short field take off and landing contests every year and all are measured. My friend has a stock motor 170B and gets off the ground in about 300'. Every...

Lonnie and Graig are both friends of mine and are very good at what they do. They would be the first to tell you its the quickest way to ruin a good plane. Lonnie teaches this type of flying in Oregon when he is not guiding in Alaska. You have to use your own plane and he is in his 160 h.p Super Cub...

I had my 170 in a rented hanger. A friend said he found a nice couch and brought it over. It was dark and raining out and he drug it in, wet ! I didn't have the heart to tell him to get it out. (mistake). Well it happened that King Rat lived in that couch and in one night he carried away all my crea...

Rear Seat
After reading some about how hard it is to get the rear seat out of my 170 B a 1953 model. I decided to make the change. Its so simple to do. Replace the hinge pins with a pin that has a hole drilled in it and a keeper with a cord on it. It takes less than 5 minutes to remove the seat, no problem at...
