Sell your 172 and trade up to a 170 with a 180 motor.

Re: Western Skyways
Sounds like you need a better home mechanic. Why would you remove your whole engine, crate it, ship it out to an engine shop, just have them put it on a test stand and run it? Unless your motor was a prop strike, high time, making metal or any other issue i dont think i know any mechanics that would...

Re: Lycoming Morning Sickness
Holy cow fellers. I think there would be a lot more action in these forums if guys did not get hand cuffed for every post. Any time someone experiments or paints an airplane some color not in the parts book they are bombarded with insurance this, FSDO that, photo copy and post your licenses bla bla....

Re: Robertson STOL
Speaking of stol kits anyone have experience with these "gap" seals on a 170. They were on a 170B i was doing some engine maintenance on. They guy said they were per the stc.

Re: Winterization w/ STC'd cowl
Install some of these. They are a Cessna part. I would not "live" with low oil temps and turn my engine into a ball of rust.
I bet you can't even get a 10F degree rise out of covering those blast tubes.

Re: Rudder Bar Lateral Play
I have seen the plastic bearings broken. The small ones dont seam to break but the double ones do. Keep an eye on them. they are used on all the new Cessnas, that is why they are so cheap. I have also seen the cracked and broken bulkheads where they mount like n2582d described. The 170 will crack li...

Re: oil temp
In Alaska i have the opposite problem. All my baffling is rebuilt and every little air leak sealed. Below about 50F, air temperature, my engine will never get above 180f oil temp. I can get 190 max in a climb. My oil sump intake is always plugged. Now the weather is way colder then 50f and its time ...

Re: 172 Taildragger Finished
Great looking airplane. How long are your water runs? In seconds? Fixed pitch i see what did you go with for pitch and length? I have a 56 with with the Fravel STC and the stock engine. It makes a good ski plane. It can be tough to turn in a wind, but once you get pointed where you are going it does...

They go the other way. Flange on the bottom. The only ref. i know of is figure 8 of the OH manual. It shows the flange on the bottom.

Re: Compatible wing
172 wings are very similar. The very early model 56 wings are identical. I used 1969 172 wings. They did have electric sender tanks. They were removed and just replaced with my fuel tanks. The hole in the butt rib is all ready in place for your fuel gauge to stick through. The fuel vent hole had to ...

Re: Spring gear leg fairings? / AV10
Yes they are made, but not for the 170. It is STCd for the 180/185. Maybe you could get it field approved.
