Re: Starter for O-300D

I have a 0-300D with the starter and angle drive but would not use the original starter in another rebuild.
Sky-tec has a direct drive, lighter weight starter for less $$ than original and would be a better choice.

Re: panel shock mounts

The panel in a 170B or 172 have six mounts across the top three along the bottom Total 9
Steel works fine but then I have a compass mounted mid windscreen. I really doubt the top panel compass would be a problem but that would be for you to determine.

I always watch smoke and water (ponds and lakes) for wind direction. The wind was at 180 and getting stronger every min...

I agree with Bruce but if you need new bolts, Fresno Airparts has them listed in TAP and their phone 559 237 4863.

Re: Humble Pie

I too have a set of Lycon 9:1 pistons on my shelf. These require no additional changes and are machined pistons.

Re: Humble Pie

C-85 pistons will not change stroke but do increase compression. If you do use C-85 pistons in a 0-200 or 0-300 they will need a bevel machined at the top to allow valve clearence. I have flown an 0-300 with 9 to 1 pistons and the difference over stock is very pronounced on take off and rpm increase...

You can't be that old if you remember all those prices. I can only barely remember 15cent gas but still enjoy hot roast beef sandwiches. Hot turkey was also good.
