Re: Tailwheel and springs

My replacement springs came from Univair (U3239A-001) and don't indicate heavy or light duty that I can see. Looking at them I'd guess heavy duty and remember seeing similar springs on several 170s at Duluth.

Tailwheel and springs

As a follow-up to Bruce's topic at the recent convention forum, I'd like to relate Angela's and my experience on our return trip. Funny how timely that forum topic turned out to be! When we bought the plane it had compression springs at the top of the chains on the tailwheel and we never had any iss...

Re: Just have to share...

I don't know of a faster or higher method of flight for humans at this point, let alone a more interesting one- that's all I meant by an extension of what 'we' do. For one chance at riding on a shuttle, at the risk of being labeled a romantic, I'd probably give up all my C-170 privileges.

Re: air compressor

I guess that this discussion really boils down to the fact that despite what Continental and Lycoming feel is a necessary compressor size, the vast majority of compression checks performed over the years have been done with much smaller units, and probably continue to be so done. And here I was thi...

Re: Just have to share...

Ahhh!

That is sooo cool. I am so jealous. Is that not the ultimate extension of what we're all exercising/pursuing? I didn't realize non-Nasa 'types' were allowed inside those machines, or even close to them. Very much worth sharing. Thanks.

Re: air compressor

I did end up buying the current version of the one Bruce shows. Mine has 150psi and was well under $200. Works like a charm. It didn't come with any nailing equipment, but did have the right accesories for use right out of the box. There are several choices in this price range at Lowes or Home Depot...

Re: air compressor

Well, I wasn't sure but I sort of suspected those numbers were on the high side, especially for our smaller engines as you said Bruce.
Thanks for all the advice. I think I can confidently choose something now and not have to sell the plane to afford it!

air compressor

Hello, The TCM inspection bulletin (SB03-3) for a cylinder differential pressure test states the compressor should be able to deliver 125 psi with a minimum of 15 cfpm to succesfully run said test. When I look at the availability and cost of machines with these specs, which seem to require 220V in m...

Personally, I liked the GLS event. However, such a 'complex' mission might have been softened by the preflight briefing occuring the night before, instead of the morning of, giving everybody a chance to chew on the assignments. Also, an official 'post-briefing gathering' explaining the answers and a...

3+ miles????? Wow.
I'm dealing with 31 miles to my rented hangar! Ah, to have a 170 so close- I'm jealous. A thermostat on a modest heating system should cover you except for those rare occasions, which, I hear you loud and clear, you are trying to cover here.

That's an interesting issue. Not knowing the distance from your hangar to your, I presume, residence, there might be a way to handle this other than a flashing red light. This is a speculative reply, so take it for what it's worth. There are several types of personal weather stations on the market t...

Interesting. What I'm afraid of is having to put so much stress on the tank-to-vent line connections that they might start leaking once I've fixed my initial problem. Or breaking the weld on the T portion of my vent system. Perhaps I wasn't using the right lubricant. The original manufacturer probab...
