Nice plane Bruce! I'll have to fly up there to see it in person.

Re: Close one

I was there! The crash happened 60 feet from me! I was in box 110,the crash happened in front of box 105. Knocked me and my wife to the ground. I honestly thought I was going to die. Changed my life. Covered in fuel, pelted by parts. Those in front of the plane were the ones hurt most as the picture...

Re: N2935D Makeover Debut

I was at the hanger today at the debut, and I've got to say that plane is absolutely perfect.

Re: Oil Consumption

Thank all of you for the great response. I will keep the oil at no more than 6 qts. and see how that works. The dipstick (besides me) is normal. It is original.

Re: Oil Consumption

That seems more realistic Arayana. Were you doing anything out of the ordinary when you burned 3.2?

Oil Consumption

17.5 hours to Oshkosh and back. One quart every three hours. This just doesn't seem right. I understand that it is "within limits" , but still........ The engine has only 75 hours on it since complete overhaul. Even the propeller was o'hauled though it had no problems. Yes, it has chrome cy...

Re: CHALLENGER AIR FILTER

I have a K-N (Challenger ) air filter on both of my cars,Harley, and my 170. I've always heard about the poor filtering ability of these filters as they flow so (too) well. Didn't clean the one on my Explorer until it had 44,000 miles. The air box behind the filter was spotless, I even ran a white r...

Re: First Plane

19. That was in 1974. Bought my 170 (the first time). $4500 dollars. Dad paid half and I paid half. Sold it 22 months later in 1976 after having flown it almost 400 hours. I was in a time building mode. Bought it back 30 1/2 years later in 2006. I'll never sell this plane again.

Re: Extending the flaps (or retracting) in a turn

I had this very thing happen in my 170A back in 1975 . Turning base into a grass strip with full flaps, the left flap completely retracted with the right flap still at 40. It's been a long time, but I don't remember the plane being uncontrollable however I did retract the right flap almost immediete...

TCP

I just had my engine COMPLETELY rebuilt just in time for Reklaw and am in the process of breaking it in. I seem to remember seeing the ingredients in TCP as being used also in a lubricating role. Will that be an issue during break-in in my fuel or am I really being overboard. I want to do this engin...

CHT with bayonet fitting

Hi everybody! I wish I could have been there at Oskosh with you. I took my plane in for an annual and found enough things dealing with the engine that we pulled the engine and am doing a complete major overhaul. I am going to install a CHT/EGT gauge. The max CHT for our engines is listed as 525 but ...
