Re: Lake George LZ
The Lake George area is a real popular diversion from flying in the Matanuska Valley from Anchorage. I was in there Saturday about 1:30 p.m. in my 182. Needless to say, I didn't try to land even though there are several areas just west of there in the valley that look solid and dry enough, as well a...

I've got one in my 182J and love it. I haven't had any trouble with it.

Re: Another successful moose hunt thanks to the 170
Most Alaskan hunters hunt both for sport and to put meat in the freezer. I'll be the first to admit that, while I won't go hungry if I don't shoot a moose and get most of my enjoyment just getting away and out in the boonies, it sure is nice to have the freezer full. If successful, the price per pou...

Re: OT. I mean REALLY OT!
There is only one way that I know of......get an EOD specialist to do it. Any other attempt will likely result in your loved ones cashing in on any insurance. I also know of such a mine here in Alaska. We found several open cases of dynamite white crystals and oozing liquid!!!! (NITRO!!!!) The mine ...

Re: Looking for a CFI in Alaska
Dan, I live in Anchorage and highly recommend a local CFI named Dean Paulsen. Give me a call tomorrow evening (Thurs) after 7:00 p.m. at 345-7607 and I'll give you the particulars, including my personal experience with him over the years and why I recommend him. His heavy emphasis is in owner tailwh...

Re: Instructor in Anchorage area???
I don't know any in the Anchorage area that are teaching in their own 170. I do know of some with a Citabria on Merrill. Contact Land and Sea Aviation at 274-2544. They're pretty good folks. I got my tailwheel endorsement years ago from them when they were known as Freedom Aviation. That is the only...

Re: 180HP engine mount???
The rubber bushings between the firewall and the mount are not AVCON. They are Cessna parts. I have the AVCON conversion in my 172 td. Also, Harry hasn't purchased the AVCON conversion stc from Bob Williams. Harry has his own STC. You still have to deal with trying to get a return call and even hard...

Re: Tailwheel transition time to a 170
The following is an unasked for opinion. Even if a converted a slant tail C-172 flys like an angel, it has to be the ugliest tail wheel airplane in existance! If it is a model with the rear "OMNIVISION" window it is even worse than that. I always have thought of them as being the resultin...

Re: installing bas shoulder harnesses
I also went with the utility buckle. I can't imagine not using the shoulder harnesses. They are so easy to use and completely non-restrictive....even when reaching down around the floor. You actually forget they are on because there is no restriction on movement. The restrictioin of the cessna buckl...

Jaime, if you're gonna be out at Merril later today (Friday 2/29) swing by Slipstream Hangers....the first one due east of Take Flight and toward 25. Look for an older white Toyota truck and a red 94 Isuzu Trooper in front of the hanger. My IA just got back from AZ and he and I will be inside workin...

Jaime, Give me a call today (Monday) at my office after 9:00 a.m. and we can discuss your situation. Maybe I can be of some help. I am not trying to sell you anything either. If you are familiar with Merrill, I own the black 172A taildragger by Northern Lights avionics. My 0360 has over 1400 hours s...
