Re: Looking for SN 26438
Skyhawk, Sorry I took so long to notice this. I usually check in every day but have been uncommonly busy lately. N2218B is alive and well. What a sweet plane she has been. I bought her from Don Harrell (a true gentleman by the way) back in '95 after he brought her back from Canada and we have shared...

This time of year I would skip West Yellowstone and Gardiner. West is closed and the snow is real deep right now. Plus there are some very tall mountains to cross between the two. My suggestion would be from Rexburg to Bozeman then Livingston then Big Timber. You are in valleys with roads, people an...

While I don't necessarily recommend it, I ran my last engine to slightly over 2400 hours. When I bought the plane it was approaching TBO but the engine appeared to be in great shape. It had been topped at 1200 hrs and compression and oil consumption were all good. I just continued to monitor everyth...

We have three bird dogs here on the field. The two I have flown had manual flaps. I have ridden in the third one which has electric flaps and a constant speed prop. I believe I was told it is an E model. I don't know enough about them to say what model has what. If I think about it I'll ask one of t...

This has worked successfully for me twice. Cut off the old control wire flush with the end of the shaft the control knob is attached to. Drill out the old control wire. (.054 if memory serves but it probably doesn't) This does not take much as ithe wire does not extend into the shaft much beyond the...

Hey Joe, How is that spinner holding up I sold you at Moose Creek a couple years ago? I was at Moose Creek last week but obviously missed you. I'm glad you guys brought this up. I have had a small crack in the passenger side step since I bought the plane 9 years ago. Sounds like I better get it take...

Static RPM
You should be able to get the static RPM listed in the type certificate data sheet with your 7653 prop. I don't have one handy here but I think it is in the neighborhood of 2230 rpm. Over here in Bozeman where we are roughly 300 feet higher than you are I get very close to the spec'd rpm. I would th...

Tailwheel
I changed to the eyebolt system when I bought my 54 B model in '95 and added the turned up - beefed up arm assembly last year when I overhauled the tailwheel system. If there was an improvement in handling it was too subtle for me to notice but then I like the way my plane handles on the ground and ...
