Re: Always carry a spare if you have one

Lost my tail wheel tire & tube on landing at Tegucigalpa Honduras once in the early 80's & of course had no spare! The head of the Aeronoutica Civil wrote an address for me to show the taxi driver where to take me to buy a new one in the city.Turned out to be the company that had all the ice ...

Re: Devil's advocate

If it had the correct amount of horse power (which is all you can get) it could go lots more than that.(all the M.R.E.'s you can get into every empty space full fuel, except the aux tank +one lard butt to drive) take off from Tela direct Tegucigalpa no problem!! :)

Re: Dial Ups Beware: Arthur Godfrey & the Constellation

I was in the Navy so never had any experience with "C" rations, but if we had long transport flights (San Francisco to Honolulu) in a C118 (R6D in the Navy, DC6 in civilian life) they handed each guy a box lunch & there was a cardboard box of four cigs in each box tucked in with the fr...

Re: Keeping a Plane Outside???

I built my hangar in 2001,the building cost $7,500 delivered to the site, the slab was $14,000 the front of the building & four bypass doors I built myself with locally purchased materials for about $2,000.I assembled the the whole thing myself (with the help of friends). The insulation was anoth...

Re: Cessna 170 Ride

Blue4,I have the O 360 Lyc. & the Jav.18 gal aux. tank that I hardly ever use since I stopped going back & forth to Honduras.I get two hrs. & twenty min on each wing tank till the eng. quits. (I only know that because of the aux tank of course) I really like having the extra fuel but wou...

Re: New York Tower Controllers

Yep,sure is a good thing that "controller" kept his cool or there would have been a big pile up there on final! We get so used to listening to someone elses directions that we sometimes forget who is in control & who is responsible.Non event except to fill TV air time.IMHO

Re: 63 years ago

It's all a matter of economics, people who could afford it used "real wallpaper" mostly anything that was purchased at a store was referred to as "store bought" or more often "brought on" At first the purpose was not to decorate or insulate but simply to slow down the &q...

Re: Spark Plug Price

23 years with this airplane & the only "spares" I ever needed were not spark plugs! One spark plug WIRE,one tail wheel tire&tube, one tail wheel spring.I finally threw out that box of spare spark plugs I was saving for years. :D P.S. I guess we should be clear on what "spare&qu...

I am very sure that nobody else on this forum has ever taken a nap in their airplane sans autopilot! Heck some have slept halfway home from work on the midnight shift two or three times a week & that's while driving a car solo on two lane roads. 8O

Re: Slip with full flaps in a B model

Bruce, You didn't ask me but I well tel you anyhow that I have made many three point landings in a DC3.I may be less sensitive than some, but I think that the only dif in any of these tail wheel AC is whether or not they are multi or single eng.I wont go down the list but asymmetrical thrust is the b...

Re: Electric Oil Temp/Pressure Gauge

That was indeed a tongue in cheek remark, point being that imho flex lines in the acc. section don't need fire shield. It's full of flex lines already & no shield. In fact both the oil & fuel pressure indication lines on my particular A/C are flex lines, maybe they were changed when the eng. con...
