Re: Leading edge skin

Yes it has been a long time. I just got doors back on my hangar (almost a year later) and I didn’t want to start working until I had a secure hangar again. It’s been a frustrating year, but time to get back to work. I have just now started getting the wing ready to remove from the airplane. It appea...

Leading edge skin

Almost a year ago a tornado hit KGPM and ripped the doors off my hangar. The doors hit the right side of my cowling and then landed on the leading edge of the left wing. The damage to both the cowl and the leading edge between the wing root and the strut is extensive. I’m looking for both a source f...

Re: New Battery solenoid not working

GREAT!!
Thanks for the helpful information. Makes perfect sense now. Always great to ask the brain trust on here before letting the smoke out of something on the airplane.

Cheers

Re: New Battery solenoid not working

I've wrung out the system and the wiring checks out. As I said the only thing I've changed is the solonoid. Old one works, new one does not. I've tested the new one and the unit itself is fine. It just doesn't play well with the airplane. Patrick Mahaffey Grand Prairie TX A&P CFI C-170A N1410D

New Battery solenoid not working

Ok this is a perplexing one. I decided to replace the Battery solenoid that is mounted to the front of the battery box. The one I removed was working, but there was a lot of rust around the base of the posts. Both the old and the new solenoids are the round type (New one is Lamar p/n X61-0028). Both...

Re: Another B 17 Lost

Del, that may have been Lefty Gardner's P-38 "White LIghtning" you were mentioning. I knew Lefty and he kept it at nearby Burnet airport. He used to do low fly-bys here at my strip and pull up into a slow-roll to get me to come out and watch. (There's absolutely no sound like twin-Allison...

Re: Another B 17 Lost

Where did this happen, and when? On Monday (mid day), a 4 engine radial flew over the Mena airport about a 240-250 heading, I swear it was B17. That was the B-29 "FIFI" She was returning to Ft Worth that morning. She is now sitting in our hangar at Meacham. The B-17 was designed for grass...

Re: A Day in Fort Worth Tx

Vintage Flying Museum is off of NW 38th street in North FW @ Meacham Field. We have a B-17, B-25, DC-3 and about a dozen other aircraft on display. Let me know when you want to come visit, and if I am in town I will meet you there. I'm doing winter maintenance on the B-17 and B-25 at the moment. Pat...

Give Ralph Stahl at Northwest Regional Airport (52F) a call. He's very good, and in DFW so you wouldn't have to send it far.

Zeftronics STC

I just installed a Zeftronics R15V00 alternator controller in my 170A. I just noticed on the STC Product Eligibility sheet that the 170 is not listed. My IA informed me that I need to file a 337 for this, but I'm afraid that since the STC doesn't list the 170, I could get into a hassle. Has anyone e...

Re: sheared sky tec starter

One of the considerations when contemplating a "modern, lightweight" starter is: It's a faster turning, more "ambitious" motor with permanent magnets. Result: it "slams" the starter/crankshaft gears. This (in my opinion) is not good. I'll keep the original starter and ...

As long as we are posting videos here, I thought you might like to see this one. It is one of the best demonstrations of energy management I have seen.
