Bearing Air was running a 170B as part of their fleet out of Nome last time I was up there. I was in a rush, so didn't stop to poke around and ask questions. Not sure if this is relevant to your question or not...

Nice day in the Chugach
Days like today make the rest of it all worth it!!! Had the entire valley to myself at mid-morning; by noon a heli-ski outfit showed up 5 miles south, and by 2 pm, more airplanes were around the whole area. Can you find the 170B? Find the 170B.jpg Here's a closer look. Found It.jpg The spine shot. S...

Re: Original seats L/R unique or interchangeable?
Thanks! While doing a bunch of winter clean-up, waiting for enough snow to fall to warrant going to skis, I was moving the seats and ended up putting my 'co-pilot' seat on the pilot seat track. I don't know why, just wanted to see if it would fit. It appeared (visually) that the seat pointed outboar...

Original seats L/R unique or interchangeable?
Maybe a dumb question, but...
Are the (suspected) original 1954 Cessna 170B seats swappable from left to right and back. Not considering the seat stop issues or any of that, just wondering if they are exact and swappable.
Thanks, Karl

Re: Best Mods for 170 STOL performance
Most of the good operators I know can fly ratty stock-ish aircraft a lot better than the guys with $100k Gucci rides who only fly on occasion... Always such a silly argument and not helpful. It's right up there with "I know you are but what am I..." The question was how to get the best sh...

Re: Best Mods for 170 STOL performance
Strip out as much weight as you can. Add an 80-42 prop for some cash, a STOL cuff for a bit more cash. Spend the rest on dead dinosaurs (gas). Most of the good operators I know can fly ratty stock-ish aircraft a lot better than the guys with $100k Gucci rides who only fly on occasion...

Mornin' I think your answer is imbedded in this thread http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5346. Not sure if you are asking about the vibration dampened mount, or the cover, or...??? I won't know the answer, but the mega-posters here will get you right...they always have for me. ...

Re: Tools to take on a trip
Couple items I use a lot, for a variety of purposes, that I didn't see mentioned (or wanted to second)...I am only planning on enough of a "repair" to get me out of the bush, to get to someone who knows what they are doing, and I really try to keep it light-weight! Zip ties of various size...

None of these are mine : The Auger Inn The C'mon Inn The Dew Drop Inn Lefty's...only serve with left handed gear. I can't claim this handicap, but my Pop had it. I poured a lot of coffee on my shirts, from a mug with a "vent" hole that was just outside your lower lip, if you held the cup w...

It was -34F at the cabin yesterday morning as I was getting the place dug-out, after 7 weeks of neglect (due to a hobbled leg). Today, it's -15F here in Chugiak, which means it's even colder than -34 at the cabin...which means I'm NOT going out. Made me long for summer flying with my A+P: Gus A n P ...

Re: Windshield reinforcement strip
Warning-potential thread hijack! What is the weight difference (installed) of the older/thinner plus retainer strap, versus the newer thicker version? Ounces? A pound? Couple pounds? Yeah, I know it shouldn't matter compared to the increases in visibility, but ... If a guy had a dream, and it involv...

Re: Photo Album
Went up here to play Friday morning - couple feet of fresh snow on top, definitely don't want to leave the skis behind. Step out of your tracks, and it's in to your waist, easy! Not bad for an O-300 on a skinned-out 170B. I like the second pic better, with the view down glacier to the valleys, but i...

O320 in a 170B?
Just wondering who knows what about swapping out the old O-300 for an O-320 in a 170B. I've looked around quite a bit at the various O-360 mods (Stoots, Del, Avcon...), just wondering why I don't see or hear of more of the 150/160+ HP swapouts. Anybody flying one now? Field Approval? STC? Yankee Air...
