Re: Remote Compass
The Aux Fuel Tank is a 22 gal Fairchild PT-19 wing tank. It was installed at the same time as the AVCON conversion in 1972. The aux tank installation is documented (337, drawings, WT/BAL, C.G. calcs, AAFM, placards) and field approved. The remote compass seems to have been overlooked as far as insta...

Re: Remote Compass
I think that this thing is a Remote Flux-Gate compass. There doesn't seem to be much information about them oline . I haven't squeezed down the fuselage yet to look for data that may be stamped on it because of the Aux Fuel Tank. Hopefully a picture is worth a thousand words. Aux Fuel Tank.jpg Remot...

Remote Compass
My plane has a remote compass that does not appear to be properly documented. The transmitter is located in the fuselage (7.5lbs, arm 148", moment 1110), the indicator is in the instrument panel, and there is a 14V to 26V 400hz inverter located on the firewall. The only reference to this compas...

I am looking for suggestions from you Alaska guys for a mechanic in the Mat-Su valley. I am located at the Wasilla airport and would like to get a working r...

Re: Knik Glacier Camping last night
Would that be Jim Creek? The Knik valley and Lake George valley are a great playground. Lake George is especially nice. It is close but has the feel of remoteness because there is no access accept by air. I've seen moose, black bear, and goats at the same time in that valley.

Rotating Beacon Removal
My plane has wing tip strobes installed. It also has a self contained strobe on top of the fuselage that is broken. I have removed and disassembled it to find that it has been arcing inside the can and is not repairable. I don't want to buy a new replacement since the wing tip strobes seem adequate....

Re: panel rewire
I am working on my '52 170B panel also. I intend to replace my fuses with the W23-xx breakers. Do you guys just go shopping or have you found a particular store that beats the rest on price? I would also like to ream out the 4 instrument holes (located between the control tube sockets) to a full 2.2...

Re: Alaska bound.....
I flew from Thompson Falls, MT to Wasilla, AK last September. I had just bought my plane and was returning home with it so I didn't really visit Canada, just flew over it. Lethbridge is a port of entry. If no agent meets you at the plane then step inside the building and call them on the phone you f...
