Re: C-145-2H Engine Overhaul
If you want to plug the muffler to pressure test, go to a local hardware store or plumbing supply house with your muffler in hand and ask for Econo-Plugs. They are basically a tapered solid rubber plug with a washer on each end and a bolt that runs thru the center and a wing nut on one end. Put the...

A lot of Cessnas have oil canning.

That has to be answered in the STC. If the FAA approved the STC with those coatings then yes.nippaero wrote:Would that be like powder coating the baffle parts above?

Re: C-145-2H Engine Overhaul
Lol, The FAA has nothing to worry about. My engine is being built by an IA who has worked in an engine shop who used to put out 30 motors a month. I am logging my experience in a nice little black AMT log book so I can hopefully be an A&P someday. Learn as you go and ask a lot of questions. Thi...

Re: corrosion hole in firewall
Perhaps it is because I broke my own personal rule of NOT using "Proseal" as a specific product used to seal fuel tanks. "Proseal" is actually a brand name covering several types of sealants, but in the RV world it is almost exclusively (and incorrectly) used to refer to a polys...

Re: C-145-2H Engine Overhaul
I looked at the X30014 IPC and now see how you cross referenced those. I would like to have as close to original configuration for my 170. So I am glad they were able to come up with a -2H case match. Most of the remaining parts to my original -2H engine will be used again. Crank, cam, sump, access...

Rydfly, proseal works and is acceptable. It is used for sealing fuel tanks.rydfly wrote:Oh boy, sounds like fun times are ahead...
Does the EC-539 sealing compound go by another name? Google and A/C Spruce searches haven't been very helpful.

Re: Electrical issue after jump start
Thanks for the replies so far. Gene, I like your explanation of maybe why the ammeter was showing what it was. Doug, I've never heard of welded plates in the battery. What would cause that? Extreme heat from over charging maybe? FWIW, the battery was not particularly warm when I put the airplane ba...

Re: Electrical issue after jump start
Wouldn't you just like to take it back to him and tell him to return it to you the way you left it with him as far as the battery condition and charging system. I would and I still might! Why would you try to turn something electrical on, increasing the load, in reaction to a high electrical load? ...

Re: Is this normal?
We replaced the o rings with the correct ones, and never used mogas. If you look down the primer the seat had a small internal crack, I know sounds crazy but that was it.... I was getting a blue stain on and off in the cowl, and the plane was running rich, all is better now. Your lucky it was runni...

Re: Seems performance is worse after prop repitch.
Any optical tach will work. It is a great idea to get one. I have used my handheld one since I was a teenager playing with RC planes. The same device is now available for in excess of $100. If I was Justin, I would find an A&P that does prop balancing or contact a local EAA chapter to see if the...

Richard, I wish it was that easy. First thing comes to mind is engine health.hilltop170 wrote:When an engine with a fixed pitch prop will just make redline rpm in level flight at full throttle in standard conditions, it has the correct pitch in my book.

Re: Seems performance is worse after prop repitch.
A couple things that are red flags with this evaluation. The first thing I notice is the omission of static rpm. On a normally aspirated motor, HP is made by higher RPM. if the OP doesn't know what the static RPM is, he should not have even taken off. It is an important first step when any prop chan...
