I had seen that and always thought it rather strange - are you ever going to fly it without oil??n2582d wrote:The other thing that needs to be done differently than these POH's describe is to realize that , for the C-170, oil is not part of the empty weight.

Re: School me on Venturi horns
I have the same setup as Dave with two 9 inch venturis with a regulator and it works very well. With a slightly extended run up I can have the gyros working before takeoff if needed.

Re: F&M Oil adapter slippage and leakage
When I got my adaptor years ago it was originally sold by El Reno and was later bought up. El Reno would send you a thread chaser (with a deposit) to clean up the threads which did make it easier to install. I recently installed the latest and greatest gasket kit from Tempest - so far so good.

Here is an article from Steve Knopp from P-Ponk. I posted this somewhere years ago but don't seem to be able to find it so here it is again.

Re: Airworx 180HP O-300 STC
When I had my engine rebuilt some years ago at Lycon I had them do the port and polish, it did 157hp on the dyno.voorheesh wrote:Lycon in Visalia, CA can perform “port & polish” on new Continental cylinders and I recall reported 159hp on their dyno for an O-300 some years back. Is that a credible claim?

Re: Continental PRIME IO-370 and Reiff
Under 14 CFR Appendix A to Part 43(a)(2)(iii) the FAA defines a major alteration as "Installation of an accessory which is not approved for the engine."
Now what type of approval is required and what the definition of an "accessory" is the question.

You are correct, I was looking at the wrong one. Thanks.n2582d wrote:Karl,
Nathaniel replaced item 16-6 in the IPC. Appears you’re looking for item shown in fig. 16-55, the bearing for the elevator tab. Try searching for Cessna p/n S2629-1 or S3895-1.

Thanks.
The parts catalog shows a PN-3A (Torrington), is this the revised part number?

Where did you find the rod end bearing for the elevator? I haven't been able to find them.

Re: where to find interior foam insulation
I did my interior walls (after cleaning, priming and epoxy painting) with 1/4 closed cell black foam that has adhesive backing. I think I got it from Spruce or Wag Aero. I did NOT install any cosmetic plastic trim over it. It reduced 'oil caning, noise and gretly helped reduce interior temps in ext...

Re: DO NOT Slip with Full Flaps
I’m not a CFI, but on rare occasions I have allowed experienced pilots to land ‘98C from the right seat and always admonish them to not to slip with full flaps. In an airplane that can get down as steeply as a170B with full flaps, if you’re still too high to land safely, you’ve already screwed up r...

I was not recommending any particular model, my link went to all the models sold at Amazon. I don't have the particular model you referenced. All I can say is I have had these in ALL my vehicles for 10+ years and have had no problems. I'd point out the the review page you pointed out shows 92% gave ...

Re: Alternator STC
The 1-star reviews on both those items aren’t good… and I don’t like carrying any more lithium batteries than I can throw out the window in-flight….so don’t store it where you can’t reach it in-flight, YMMV. This is a good minor alteration mod to perform: 466E923E-81AD-44BC-9293-D1470E77FE3C.png No...
