Re: F&M Oil adapter slippage and leakage
Good catch on the tightening vs loosening of the adapter, it does look like it did move tighter - how in the world did that happen? Since the last oil change they did do some work in there, so maybe someone pushed down on the filter causing it to move. If so I get an F grade for not noticing that, b...

Re: F&M Oil adapter slippage and leakage
Maybe if you used all caps I might understand GAHORN? I gotta say I was on this forum years ago and left because of the moderator, and I see nothing has changed a decade later. As I said, at the last annual the mechanic took it off and put the "correct" parts on per the AD. Did he actually...

F&M Oil adapter slippage and leakage
I think I'm having a growing oil leak from my F&M filter housing, and as you can see in the picture it has moved, rotated. My mechanic took it all apart at the last annual and replaced the gaskets etc per current recommendations, but I feel this setup is prone to issues, or at least my mechanic ...

Re: Taildragger Aviation still in business?
I can confirm! Thank you Ben for the update, I was able to finally get through as well after many months of trying. They have an aol account still, so that may have something to do with it. Regardless, cowl latches are on the way! woot!

Re: Taildragger Aviation still in business?
Does anyone have an update on Taildragger Aviation? I also want to get a set and tried many ways. David Lowe passed on a phone number to me, actually two different ones and neither connected to the right people. Any leads would be appreciated!

Re: cessna 170 rigging
Looking for the rigging document posted by Gahorn in this thread, I'm a full member but don't seem to have access to this file for some reason. Can anyone help me find this in the proper place? I'm looking to re rig a 1948 170, the right wing wants to drop all the time.

I agree with the spare tubes, I wasn't sure if you could get away with a tube repair kit or not (in a pinch).. but the one time I had a flat with the tail wheel the tube totally blew out and was not remotely repairable. I didn't have to worry about it because I was at Merrill field, but if I had bee...

Emergency Repair Kit - what should you bring?
I'm looking for ideas for an emergency repair kit for the 170 for flying in Alaska. I have some ideas of general things to bring, duct tape of course, and all the normal things that are listed under survival kits. But I'm looking for any practical advice on which tools (or equipment) might be the mo...

Well, how much gas in my tanks makes a difference, and whether the unuseable was in there when I started to calibrate the dipstick matters - it matters because I will either have 3 gallons useable or zero gallons useable per side when I get to a given (albeit low) point. 3 gallons useable per side i...

It would be great if people wouldn't put so many of their value judgements on a simple request for information. I would like to know how my airplane works, not because I want to go out and kill myself, but because it says I have 18.5 useable but I don't think I really do, so when I figure I can fly ...

Talked to my mechanic today, he says when you drain from the sump, the tank is totally empty... so all the non-useable is gone, which is good to know. He thinks, and I agree, that the two gallons we can't get in there is what is actually above the fill cap - in other words, the fill cap is about 8-1...

Yes Bruce, I was being overly dramatic to make a point... As I said in the email, right now I almost always go with full tanks, I'm trying to convince myself to go with less.. to do that I want to get better at measuring fuel burn, to do that I need an accurate method for measuring gas without filli...

The difference is that your method, using the fuelhawk, is reasonably accurate if you measure from the top and then you drain down.. i.e., fill the tanks, fly for two hours and then measure and you'll be pretty close. I'm looking the other way, go in as light as is reasonable to a short strip, so I ...

Actually, it is very important whether that unuseable fuel amount (3 gallons) was still in my tanks when I started because that is my starting point, or conversly my ending point (when I run out of gas and fall out of the air 8O ). I drained the tanks, and then filled it up but only got 19 gallons i...

Thanks for the feedback, that sounds about right.. I used the fuelhawk brand gauge, but not the one for a 172, you have to calibrate this one and then use a conversion factor to get the gallons. So I guess the take home message is that even when I drain the tanks via the quick drain there must be ab...
