170 MLG outboard bracket access
One of my A&P/IA friends called a couple of days ago about a C-170B he has in the shop for corrosion repairs, beginning with the outboard MLG brackets in the gear box. He asked if I knew the "best way" to gain access for removing & replacing the outboard brackets: from the top (fro...

Re: Tailwheel CFI Listing
Hello, Bruce and George - If you have a consolidated list of 170 CFI's, please remove my name from it. I turned my CFI/II ticket back in several years ago but still get the occasional call from someone who says they saw me on "the TIC170A CFI list". Thanks, and hope to see you in Penn Yan....

Bendix Magneto Repair Shop
Does anyone out there have recent experience with a good repair shop that knows our Bendix magnetos? Any comments pro or con would be appreciated, as mine are nearing that 500 Hr IRAN.

Insurance Problem
If any of you insure your 170 through Aviation Unlimited Agency Inc (AUA), formerly of Greensboro NC, now in Birmingham AL, BE SURE that you retain proof of your payment to AUA for your policy, regardless of what company actually issues the policy. I have insured through them for about 20 years, wit...

Re: 170B Flap Handle Removal
Del, I got the handle out last night by first removing the sector that the latch engages at the various deflections, then rotated the flap handle 90 degress to right (in yaw), pulled the LH spacer forward, then pulled the pivot bushing forward and out. The flap handle has to deflect the elevator cab...

Re: 170B Flap Handle Removal
Roger that, Del. I'm heading back up to the hangar this afternoon and will have another go at it. I'll report back. Again, many thanks.

Re: 170B Flap Handle Removal
Del, I can tell from your description that you do know what I'm talking about!! Thanks for reassuring me that it will actually come out of there without having to cut the tunnel. I'll keep trying. Many thanks

Re: New windshield
I've had a Cee Bailey 1-pc in my '53 since about '83 without any problems. It does require the three thru-bolts in the overhead. My A&P at the time and I installed it in about 4 hours, if dim memory serves me correctly. The trimming to fit was not too bad with a sabre saw and vixen file, then dr...

170B Flap Handle Removal
George, I am finally getting around to doing the flap handle repair you decribed in the News. The flap cables are detached and the pivot bolt is out, but I have not yet figured out how to get the flap handle out of the tunnel. The shop manual is no help, of course. Spent most of this afternoon tryin...
