Re: Tall pilot in a 170?
Hi Marc, I am 5'9" and my wife is 6'0"; when we go flying/camping/etc. in the 170B she sits a bit aft from me and we are comfortable. Where are you in LA? I am a CFII based at KHHR and fly a 170B as well as some other less interesting aircraft. PM me if you like and perhaps we could arrang...

Re: Center stack
Here is an Avion panel installation on a '52B. Note there is also a fuel gauge for the aux tank forward of the flap handle.

Re: C170B Engine and Gear Rigging Experts in So. Calif?
I fly a '52B with lady legs out of KHHR and can confirm that brakes are required to steer on the ground. The Scott 3200 tailwheel is quite sensitive to caster, becoming even more difficult to steer when the main tailwheel spring is worn causing a negative caster. A new main tailwheel spring may do w...

Re: O-340 Lycoming (Moved Topic from Mx Library)
I have about 70 hours in a 1952 170B with the Doyn O-340 conversion and a Hartzell CS prop. The engine is essentially an stroked O-320 with 8.5:1 compression. The data plate says it is certified on 91/96 octane and makes 170 HP. I have heard there may be as many as five 170's with this setup. It get...

Re: Three Landing Gear/ Gear Box Questions
Why couldn't those doing a tailwheel conversion using your STC use the gear box parts from PPONK? http://pponk.com/HTML%20PAGES/landing_gear_products.html Sourcing yellow tagged 170 gear legs is another problem however... A buddy of mine, whose 1952 C-170B I instruct in, is contemplating a C-175 tai...
