My data plate says simply "C-145", yet my original logbook states "C-145-2H"

Can somebody please tell me, what is this thing? I don't have and engine parts guide to view and it's not externally obvious (to me at least) what it's function is on my C-145-2.

Well, as I said, I have new "mousetraps" on the way from Mr. Chavez, so I'll likely just use those. I will test-fit my coiled tension springs though to compare function. If they work just as well, I'll keep them handy for the next repair (hopefully another 60 years or so from now )

Just finished the re-install over the weekend. It appears the Whelen A427 was the correct unit.

There is very little info regarding the A427 on Whelen's website, but it does say that it was standard equipment on some Cessna aircraft 1971 and later. The closest Whelen product I can find is the A427, which does have the teardrop shape, but has different metal cladding at the base of the tube. Also, there are no posts visible inside the tube like mine has. The Whelen A610 has the same looking tube as mine, and the metal posts inside look the same...
