Re: Mystery engine component

I understand. For what it's worth though, it's visible without removing the cowl. Mine has an STC'd belt-driven vacuum pump which requires the nose bowl from an early C172 installed, so there's no grille to hide behind, the wierd-o thing is in plain view. I've had one ramp inspection in my short fly...

Re: Mystery engine component

Obviously whatever I have going on isn't affecting the function of my engine. My concern is that it's so visible, it may be a concern when/if I am "blessed" with the opportunity for a ramp safety inspection. If my current part is of questionable legality, I'd rather locate and install what...

Re: Mystery engine component

My data plate says simply "C-145", yet my original logbook states "C-145-2H"

So then, the question becomes... what should I put into this hole to keep things legal?

Re: Mystery engine component

So do I understand correctly that there was an option for some C-145's to have a mechanical prop? I believe my engine is orignal to the airframe, a '53 170B. Also, when I look at the topic linked in the above post, I don't see any picture attached of what the device should look like. I'd like to hav...

Re: Mystery engine component

Okay, so I'll pose the question another way... for those of you without this strange doo-hickey, what goes in this spot on your engine?

Mystery engine component

:?: Can somebody please tell me, what is this thing? I don't have and engine parts guide to view and it's not externally obvious (to me at least) what it's function is on my C-145-2.

Thanks!

Re: door latch spring P/N?

Well, as I said, I have new "mousetraps" on the way from Mr. Chavez, so I'll likely just use those. I will test-fit my coiled tension springs though to compare function. If they work just as well, I'll keep them handy for the next repair (hopefully another 60 years or so from now  )

Re: door latch spring P/N?

John, I've seen those pics before, but to me it appears that the pair of tension springs are being used to hold the handle closed, not to force the latch out. Am I seeing it wrong? I was finally able to contact Mr. Chavez and have new "mousetrap" springs on the way. I'd like to understand ...

door latch spring P/N?

Hi folks, I'm in dire need of accurate info regarding which part number I need to order to fix my non-functional door latch. The part that is broken appears to be the spring that forces the catch out to its extended position. It looks like a miniature mouse-trap (or at least it used to) that pushes ...

Re: What strobe do I have?

Just finished the re-install over the weekend. It appears the Whelen A427 was the correct unit.

Re: What strobe do I have?

I just ordered the 427 from Whelen. I'll post the results after I attempt the re-install. Thanks.

Re: What strobe do I have?

There is very little info regarding the A427 on Whelen's website, but it does say that it was standard equipment on some Cessna aircraft 1971 and later. Stands to reason that's what may have been installed on mine back in '77. As far as I can tell, both the A610 and A427 should work identically with...

Whelen A413A HDA-CF installed 2 years ago. No detail as to what make/model preceded it.

Re: What strobe do I have?

The closest Whelen product I can find is the A427, which does have the teardrop shape, but has different metal cladding at the base of the tube. Also, there are no posts visible inside the tube like mine has. The Whelen A610 has the same looking tube as mine, and the metal posts inside look the same...

What strobe do I have?

Hello all, I'm in need of a new wingtip strobe flash tube and could use some help to identify the exact part I need. I have the usual Nav/strobe combo... the baseplate of the light assembly says "Grimes Model E". See the attached pics of my actual parts. You can see that the flash tube has...
