Wingtip Dent, IAs in Florida/Georgia?

Hi all, I'm new to 170s. Owned a '46 140 for a while, got a ride from Bill Kelsall in his awesome ragwing 170 a few years ago (plus some helpful hints and history), and getting more serious about looking for one myself now. I've lurked here off and on for some time too, glad you guys are here! Lots ...

Re: Looking for a ride in a 170, near PA

Ray just keep focused and you'll get both. And if your ever back this side of the Allegeny's we can hook up for a ride. As I recall as we were trying to do this last time my airplane got damaged. I've got another which of late has been a real gas saver being it's stuck in the mud but that can't las...

Heh, my financial plan doesn't anticipate making any money doing either in this era...lol. Upkeep on both is a killer. Just want a house to live in and an airplane to fly.

Re: Looking for a ride in a 170, near PA

Thanks for following up guys, and thanks again Bill! I did enjoy the flight and the hangar flying, I don't get to do that as much these days. I'm pretty confident a 170 is the next step, will just be a matter of time and money (no surprise there). For one, the airport situation around here needs to ...

Re: Estimated Value on this 170??

Because I'm casually in the market (precursor to becoming serious in the market), I have a daily obsession with checking Barnstormers. Thought you guys might be interested to see this: http://www.barnstormers.com/classified_543883_1948+CESSNA+170+.html True, we encourage a capitalist economy, but kn...

Re: '48 Metalized Wing Owners/Operators

I can give some input from the 120/140 perspective... My dad and I owned a '46 140 with metalized wings for 8 years (just sold it last year). At 1000 lb empty, it was definitely one of the heavier examples (yet only had very basic instruments and radios, no gyros except for the electric turn coordin...

Re: Lower Cowl Lip size

Both John and Bill have '48 170s and wondering if it is just a coincidence they both have the larger lip or maybe Cessna started with the large lip then reduced it later creating the smaller standard and larger seaplane lip. Anyone with a '48 know any different? The majority of '48s I've seen pics ...

Re: Looking for a ride in a 170, near PA

I appreciate the responses so far. There was a '48 for sale in Illinois (maybe still is) that I've considered looking at, but wouldn't have been able to fly anyway because the owner isn't flying it and doesn't have the in-motion/in-flight insurance coverage active. So figure I should get up in one b...

Looking for a ride in a 170, near PA

Hi all, I don't mean to be forward, but I was wondering if there's anyone with a 170 within a few hours of the Pittsburgh area who wouldn't mind showing off their plane to a recovering 140 owner? Preferably a ragwing or A, would consider an early B. Will drive up to 4 hours, so a radius something li...
