Re: Accessory Case gasket mismatch

Thanks for the photo Aryana, it makes it look like whoever built the right side of my crank case just eyeballed it with a hand drill. As for the gasket... I was unable to get any pertinent history of changes to its design or any other reports of issues with it. Here is a picture of the aft end of th...

Re: Accessory Case gasket mismatch

Tom I'll see if TCM can tell me if they changed the gasket design and when. I'll let you know. I'd agree except that Tim said it leaked. It gives me the impression that at some point the hole aligned perfectly with the accessory case or a previous gasket. Or is that some sort of bushing in there? Di...

Re: Accessory Case gasket mismatch

Update after talking things over with my A&P. The leak I'm actually not so concerned anymore with and am actually glad that it happened because it pointed out the mismatch. I'm confident the leak can be solved. Right now I want to put to bed any potential for having problems down the road. TCM s...

Re: Accessory Case gasket mismatch

It looks to me like the gasket is designed with a large enough hole dia. there to accomodate some mismatch. Isn't there enough play around the adjacent stud so the copper gasket is outside the oil passage hole on the engine case and the accessory case? Thanks for looking into the part numbers. Conf...

I believe that may be the way it is with the "new style" accessory case.

Re: Accessory Case gasket mismatch

That looks like the old gasket which has been in place, was it leaking? From a manufacturing standpoint, that could just be manufacturing error in the case. The boss is in the right position, just not the drilled hole. I've never seen that end of these engines before so I don't know. Long story sho...

I have nothing constructive to add about your problem, just a curiosity about how the gasket lines up with the oil passage in the accessory case?

Yeah, the gasket does line up perfectly with the case which makes me wonder if deeper issues are going on here.

Accessory Case gasket mismatch

I'm in the process of replacing the the accessory case and went to install the new TCM gasket and discovered that the copper ring that surrounds the oil pressure relief valve port doesn't match the port on the engine case. But the gasket mates perfectly with the accessory case itself. You can see in...

Re: Enjoying Los AltosCA

If you get a break in the marine layer, a flight up the coast to Shelter Cove (0Q5) is worthwhile. The runway splits a golf course that overlooks a cliff coastline. And it is walking distance to a deli with fantastic fish and chips. Request the Bravo transition out of san carlos and you can get a gr...

Good to know there is a tradeoff with the vertical card style. Thanks.

Re: Compass deviation from yoke?

At first blush a vertical card seems like a neat idea. But I've heard of people with problems with them. They would be effected by the magnetism same as your whisky compass. Where are you going to move the the compass? About the only place to move it further away is to mount it on the top of the in...

Re: Compass deviation from yoke?

George, I was pretty much in your camp on this since I use this plane only for fair weather flying. But it's pretty clear that my A&P's strong preference is for me to relocate the compass. Since he's really helping me out with this owner assisted annual I'm willing to just go along with him on ...
