Be very glad you installed the rudder return springs with the firewall off.

Re: Can I save my Narco Antenna?
Yes, I made a 26" one. Yes, it lays on the headliner behind me.
I bet the short one would work just fine. If I ever have need to take the antenna off, I'll put on a short one and check it out.

Re: Marking Antique Aircraft (our 170s)
Martha Lunken wrote on the subject in an article a while back. She, as well as I, am in favor of 2" letters. The harder to read, the better! If you must use 12" letters, place them in a paint scheme that makes them difficult to read  You never know when some busy-body will want to re...

Re: Spruce Aircraft shoulders harness
I'm curious about several of your comments referencing difficulty reaching the flaps with the fixed harness on. Does the hooker harness have an adjustable length strap(s)? The pic on their web site just shows the lap buckle.

Re: Where are Your VHF antennae?
I removed the ancient, tv-looking coax, which had one splice near the instrument panel and replaced it with new rg-58 (the aircraft parts store did not stock rg-400). Then I cleaned up the antenna and connections. The verdict from Houston Approach, 30 miles distant: "You're scratchy but very re...

Re: Where are Your VHF antennae?
Thank you for all the helpful comments. Especially, the watch-building types! I do plan on removing the very old coax and installing rg400, and have a newer antenna I was already planning on installing. I checked the ground and it seems fine. The kx170b radio is fresh back from the shop, so I assume...

Where are Your VHF antennae?
Antennas? I'm having, or rather some approach and tower controllers are having difficulty with my radio transmission and reception. I can talk to aircraft that are 30-40 miles away and some ground facilities that are 30-40 miles away. It's when I get close to a ground station that difficulties arise...

Re: Can I save my Narco Antenna?
So the answer is Yes. It turns out that the KI-208 Course Indicator, my (ex) avionics guy (long story) sold me and installed was the culprit. I ordered another C.I., installed it and voila! I can pick up every VOR within 60 miles at pattern altitude. Just in time. My student starts cross-country tra...
