Tailwheel Springs
It was time to replace the tailwheel tire on N3244A, sn25888. Searching the forums for guidance I decided to also replace the bearings and tailwheel main spring at the same time. After the parts arrived and the aircraft elevated on a jack it was then I noticed two main leaf springs have been install...

Re: Spinner Bulkhead Cracked
Thanks for all the info. After a trip to the hanger to get bulkhead part number the stamp revealed the cracked bulkhead was from Univair. I am certain the poor fit between the spinner boss and prop hub caused a movement that eventually cracked the bulkhead. So I assume purchasing a replacement Univa...

Spinner Bulkhead Cracked
I have a 170B, s/n 25888 with 8 bolt C-145 in annual and after removing the spinner we found a 1 inch crack in the spinner bulkhead that follows the arc of the crank flange. The A&P and I removed the prop and discovered the spinner bulkhead crack scribed a semi-circle arc three quarters of the w...

Re: Elevator bellcrank lateral movement
Part #36, as it attaches to the bulkhead bracket via 36A, has the lateral movement. I believe it should only hinge fore and aft around bolt 36A with yoke elevator commands.

Elevator bellcrank lateral movement
On preflight of a 1953 B model I noticed while standing at the tail and moving the elevator surface the elevator control tube was imposing a lateral movement in the elevator bellcrank. Reaching through the access hole I can move the bellcrank port/starboard approximately 3/8 inch. All hardware was s...

Re: Spinner Bulkhead Replacement
Update on spinner "wobble" problem. After a pleasant conversation with Ole Gar, he recommended before I remove the prop I should first-off verify a tight fit exists between the spinner boss and prop hub. After removing the spinner close inspection revealed the material used to make a tight...

Re: Spinner Bulkhead Replacement
Sounds like backing plate cracks are not an uncommon occurrence--either from incorrect mounting or victims of hangar rash. It appears the prop will come off this weekend. I'll post with the results.
Thanks!

Spinner Bulkhead Replacement
It seems my spinner has developed a "wobble". Putting slight pressure on the spinner causes a small amount of movement in the back plate. I removed the spinner and there is no visual evidence of a crack in the exposed areas of the backing plate. My assumption is a crack(s) have developed u...

Re: Taxi/Ldg light switch
George's interpetation of my post was correct. 12v is supplied to the switch, but no voltage on outbound terminals when the switch is actuated. So....I will remove and attempt to clean/lubricate. All under the supervision on an A/P. If unsuccessful, a new switch will be purchased. Thanks for the p/n...

Taxi/Ldg light switch
1953 C170B Taxi/Landing lights inop. Switch is being supplied with 12V via fuse, but when the switch is pulled to first or second position no power is applied to the terminals supplying voltage to the light bulbs. The switch looks new (case is shiny and the terminal screws are bright brass colored. ...

Re: Door hold-open fittings
Gentlemen - Thanks for all the help. You are all correct, the aircraft is indeed a 1953. A local shop had a pair of Tinnerman clips in a dusty bin that was able to purchase (for a coke). I have another issue but will post a new thread. Again, thanks! I look forward to years of fun and excitement wit...

Door hold-open fittings
I'm new to the club. Last Saturday I purchased N3244A, 1955 170B. So treat me gentle. My question is the assembly that holds the doors open on the ground. The twisted metal part attached to the lower surface of the wing is intact. The opposite part that is attached to the door is missing on the port...
