Re: Fwd Carry Through Spar FAILURE
Guy's I have finished up the lab work on the carry through. More on that later. FYI and for piece of mind, I see no reason to add any special requirements to what is already available to all of us. Go flying, no worries.

Re: Fwd Carry Through Spar FAILURE
Just comment to all on this investigation. I'm a certified aircraft accident investigator and have the part in hand. I will be looking closely at the fracture surface in the SEM. At this point, I will not comment on the failure but I will say I see no immediate panic in changing any current inspecti...

Re: Fwd Carry Through Spar FAILURE
I flew over to Burlington in RYX to pick up the carry-thru spar from Les. Next week I'll have a look at the fracture surface in the scanning electron microscope (SEM). I will try to post some quick photos....need to resize first. Cheers Dave

Re: Very cool gust locks
If you think it won't happen to you, your wrong. There are lots of control lock stories of all sorts. Refuse to install locks of any kind without big visible warnings. It sounds so easy and so basic but a good preflight proceedures and a good control check should always be completed. I've been very...

Re: solid tail wheel
My Scott 3200 broke in the spring and I used a solid Maule type (solid tire) for a while as a short term fix. I was glad to get rid of it when the parts came in for the Scott. As mentioned, the solid type absolutely beats the crap out of the airframe, in soft grass it digs in, and ground handling is...

Re: Density Altitude
As an aircraft accident investigator this is a tough one to watch. Good to hear there were no fatal injuries.......As with every accident there are so many "holes in the cheese" that were coming together before this event..... The out come was almost predictable. There were so many opportu...

Re: New Machine
Great job! Your attention to details is impressive. I have to laugh, in looking at your airplane and others, I just realized my 48 interior door handles are on backwards!!
Some day I will turn them around to point aft.

Re: Landing technique
OK, I will through in another view point :D . One thing that I noticed (and am fighting somewhat) is that since my eye prescription changed (bi-focals) my depth perception while landing has changed and I fine myself higher that I think I am. When the wing stalls in a 3 point attitude, I find that I...

Re: Landing technique
What is the new stall speed with the STOL kit? I didn't realize the kit so radically changed the characteristics of the airplane. (Maybe I want to add it to better my short field performance) Your mileage may vary. No speeds are given with the STC; it just says performance will be as good or better...

I installed the catch assembly last night and it worked perfectly. One minor adjustment to the door post receiver and I was done. See pictures attached.

Re: Door Catch LH side
Well, I finally gave up and made my own door catch..(I did manage to find a new one for $510.00, they would give to me for $300.00 - forget it!!) Anyway, about three or four hours of labor plus an old scrap piece of hard teflon, this is what I made. I will install tonight and if I'm lucky it will no...
