Ok part number 0542106, if you look at the 170a parts book , you will see it spring looks straight at the bottom ....? The spring which came on the plane was basically straight ? Is there any source for these staright springs ? Or will the springs from Spruce , Univair work OK ? and correct the scot...

I guess I didn't fully understand , the issues, with these tail leaf springs, I read that the main leaf springs should be changed ,every 500 -600 hrs , as a preventitive maintenance item. I also "thought " the L-19 spring was inter changable , with our 170B tail spring assy. I rebuilt my t...

I seem to think it was about $50.00 for each manual.
If you need a copy I can give it to you.

I decided to install an STC'ed carb air temp guage in my C 170B , after thinking about  , all the time you are running with carb heat on , you are using unfiltered air for your engine. My thought was with a carb temp guage I can select carb heat when it is required , and us as little unf...

I have installed the probes very close to the exact same location from the flange in all the exhaust stub pipes. I guess the value which I will ( should ) never exceed, is what I am looking for?? I do follow that what the gauge shows will depend on the temp, at the exact location of the probe, and t...

Max EGT

I cannot seem to find an absolute number for a max EGT. I realize that the max , will vary day to day , with altitude and temperature , as well with power settings. The reason I am looking for this value ,is I am installing a 6 cyl EGT guage , and I need to program it to the max value for the engine...

One other thing to check is that the engine has very good ground bonding to the airframe.I found this as an issue on my O-300D C 170B.I think most machines are bonded ,engine to mount and then mount to airframe. It is easy to verify by running a heavy cable from the batt. ground to the starter case, ...
