Re: Left mag drop

My cap have the cover that lets each wire be taken one and off, not the solid state cover, but if I replace them, I am told to get with the solid state, that is 12 less items that can unscrew due to vibration etc. Plus, the solid state is cheaper. Thoughts?

Spark Plug part number

What is the best plug to use in our engines? I am not at the hangar right now and I don't know what I have in it now. Can someone tell me which ones we use? Thx, Blake in Alabama

Re: Cruise Speeds

Being new to this engine, I was be curious what others get on the RPMs when you go full power at takeoff. also, what is the suggested rpm setting for cruise. I see some posting 2550 and 2650, but I think mine red lines there, but will have to look again.

Re: Left mag drop

I have the Bendix mags and I think the back cap can be either the cap that allows each wire to screw in or it can be the solid piece. I am not expert yet. Anyone else?

Re: Left mag drop

Aryana, I just realized I actually have that same cable tester and didn't know it. I bought out a flight school and maintiance shop 2 years ago and it was new in the box, just found it tonight. I will test it tomorrow. On a related note, when I called to price ignition wiring harnesses with Spruce, ...

Cruise Speeds

I am curious what rpm settings people cruise at and what speeds (generally) you cruise at during those settings. Thanks!

Re: Great News! N5444C back in the air, C-170A

N5444C is now based in the Huntsville, AL area and loves it, lol. As for difference between the 120/140 and the 170, I describe it that the 170 lands like a truck. The 140 is quick to respond and light on the pedals, but the 170 lags and you have to be one it because it takes a moment to get a respo...

Re: Left mag drop

I think we narrowed it down to #4 ignition wire. When on the left mag "bottom cylinders", the engine ran like it was missing a spark. I removed each bottom plug one at a time and ran it the engine for a few seconds. Each time the miss was real bad, as if it were missing two sparks. but whe...

Left mag drop

I have a drop on the left mag. It is consistent and does not flucuate. I sounds as if a plug might not be firing, but they all checked out when cleaned and tested. The engine has not been run much in a year, so it could need to be run. I guess it could be the mag. Thoughts on testing or anything else?

Price for 50X50 metal hangar building

I have the opportunity to buy a 50x50 metal building to use as a hangar. It is on a trailer and has never been erected. It currently has 2 14 foot wide roll up doors, so I would have to put hangar doors on it. Has anyone built or priced a new or used one recently?

Re: Great News! N5444C back in the air, C-170A

New carb (was gummed up do to auto gas), had to replace the 2 L brackets at the base of the vertical stab, a little surface corrosion spots, inspected entire inside of plane with inspection camera with 3 foot flexible cable and detailed annual took a week. Only real trouble shooting now is a little ...
