My weekend trip to the Mall Of America

I wrote this up for another aviation forum website that I visit, I though that you guys might enjoy reading it as well. Sorry if this is in the wrong section. There have been some threads recently on costs regarding weekend trips. Last year after Christmas I took my wife and daughter to see the St. ...

The gauge is brand new. I am looking into a regulator, in a shallow dive to descend from cruise alititude the gauge winds up to 8+ inches. Probably too much. I'd rather have too much suction than not enough.

Ok, that annual from he!! is finally done.

I test flew the airplane and the suction gauge is reading 7 inches in flight! I now am wondering if I need a regulator. I also wonder if too much suction is a bad thing for the instruments.

Re: Trim

My 172 ('56) seems heavier on the controls than several A model 170's I have flown in the past year. I haven't had an opportunity to fly a B model 170 lately. Don't know that Ole Pokey is perfectly rigged either? As many A's & B's as we have around, we should have a flyin and try the vrs aircra...

I've always changes my brake linings and ELT batteries with a simple log book entry. I've never had my mechanic tell me differently, in fact, he told me I could.

I have another wuestion, with the ventury set up how long does it take to properly spool up the instruments? I doubt taking off with a 300ft ceiling is going to be very smart, I'm wondering what a good set of minimums would be? Maybe you sit on the end of the runway for a few minutes at high rpm to ...

Thanks Russ. The speed is something that I wonder about, you cruise at 120mph, I only do 110mph, must be that trianing wheel hanging off the nose :) Anyway, it will be interesting to see how much suction I pull when I get back into the air, hopefully this week.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I really appriciate it. To adress some of the questions: 1. My static system was rebuilt two years ago. 2. We are going to look at the filter next week. 3. I have a two year old Directional Gyro, bought it rebuilt from Kelly Instruments. 4. I have a two year old Artif...

Thanks Doug, my A&P calls them torpedo tubes :)

I will look into the "Super Venturi", what kind of cruise speed do you see?

IFR and venturies?

As those of you who know me know I have a '56 model 172. I would like to do my instrument training in the plane. I have noticed that the artificial horizon doesn't behave quite right. The instrument is only two years old so I was figuring I wasn't getting enough suction from the venturi. I have two ...

As a follow up to Georges comments I recently had my Goodyear brakes upgraded to the clevelands (I have a '56 C172) and they work alot better than the goodyears. I find that they stop me much better if I really step on them. Parts are also much much less expensive when you need them. I beleive the S...

Thanks for the posts guys!

I rotate my fuel selector between tanks on EVERY flight. I saw a post a long time ago from George on why to do this and I've done it ever since.
