Leaky fuel vent

I've noticed that when I park my plane and it's not level the fuel tank vent will drip fuel. The obvious fix is to park the plane level, but thats not always possible. Does anyone have any suggestiones to help fix this problem? One thing that comes to mind is fabricate something to plug the hole whi...

Just order one from Spruce for $1.85 or copy one from another aircraft. Aside from the FAA regs that require one in the aircraft, who really uses these cards? Anyone? I could go on a rant here about the worthlessness of these stupid deviation cards because the magnetic flux of the earth is constant...

Flight in a Connie

Constellation Ride - Sunday, August 29th 2004 I received an e-mail from the Iowa DOT on Monday the 23rd about some upcoming events. The one that interested me was the possibility of getting a Ride on a Lockheed Constellation that will be in Iowa City this upcoming weekend. Iowa City is about a 1 hou...

I also do Angel Flights and I would write off this expense. That is the neat thing about Angel Flight....you can help other people while you help yourself...one of the few win-win situations still out there in aviation world. Glad to see someone else doing Angel Flights in their trusty 170. I love ...

Charity Flight Deductions

I have a question regarding deductions for Angel Flight and the EAA’s Young Eagles. I was under the impression that I could only deduct fuel and oil but after talking with several pilots via message boards I am finding that a lot of the calculate the hourly operating cost of their planes and use t...

Don't know about the tax question but I think you could have converted to the key type starter for that kind of money and maybe even cheaper. If its not too late you might want to consider it. It's a much better system. Shawn The push button type from B&C is $900. Skytec is a little cheaper. I ...

The skytec started when all is said and done is about $300 cheaper than the B&C. My A&P said the B&C was a better unit and cited some technical reasons as to why. I don't know myself. It turns out that my clucth was damaged and needed to be replaced at a cost of $210. George, what are yo...

Angel Flight Mission

On August 4th I flew a liver caner patient and her husband from Des Moines, IA to Rochester, MN. I was the leg two pilot, she was coming up from Springfield, MO. After they got to the airport and stretched their legs we go loaded up into my plane and we took off and headed north. I had to stay lower...

New starter needed

It looks as if my start on my O300-A has died. The shop is looking at it now and I am going to be faced with a couple of decisions. 1. Rebuild my existing starter and put it back into service. 2. Put on a Skytec starter remove the pull start and install a push button. 3. Put on a B&C starter, re...

I have a 1956 C172 with an ICOM radio in it. My radio is several years old and is NOT the TSO'd version. My shop had no problems in putting it in, in fact they told me that I would have to put a TSO'd radio in only if I wanted to get my bird certified for IFR. Then the primary radio must be TSO'd an...
