Fuel flow/Hot #2
I have read all the posts again and again on this issue and weighed all the pros and cons. Here is what I have done to band-aid the situation. If you read the last few posts on the "Fuel Flow" subject you will see that I never experienced this problem with a Hot #2 CHT until I exchanged ca...

Re: Fuel flow
I exchanged my carb for an overhauled carb - reasoning behind this was my old carb was so worn with regards to the mixture shaft. I felt there was too much play - and was not sure even if they could re-bush it. I was told by the tech at the carb shop that "my old carb" had been preceded by...

Re: Fuel flow
I am cautiously reponding to this thread as it seems to be a hot topic - no pun intended. I am experiencing this #2 hot cylinder issue after a recent carb exchange. Never had any issue of CHT alarms on climb out until installing an freshly overhauled exchange. I have just completed annual and took t...

Re: 170A Inner Cowling: Piano Hinge Mod
I just replaced my whole inner cowling due to cracks and just overall appearance. I thought that I would also re-design this rolled latching of the cowl pieces - but after some thought I chose to stay with the way the original panels were done. However when I made my new panels I installed a small 6...

Re: Vibration during leveling out
I receive rpm through the engine analyzer - the sensor for rpm is installed on the right mag. The problem occurs around 2400-2450 and only if I am aggressive with pushing the nose over. I have never experienced this anywhere else in the flight profile. The prop is a Sensenich and has been balanced. ...

Vibration during leveling out
First off I am an A&P that is willing to learn outside of the box by simply listening to others and their experience.....unlike some others that I know. Here is the situation - I have a 1950 Cessna 170A - purchased it last year. I am loving the plane - and have been flying and fixing for the pas...

Re: Fuel Tank Vent - necessary???
BL, Grow up - there was no disrespect meant in my post. I just find it hard to believe that in this day in age no one has pursued changing the venting system given it's problems. Cessna certainly changed it when they manufactured the 172. Oh well - I will pursue this more - maybe even get an STC for...

Re: Fuel Tank Vent - necessary???
Okay - so I believe I have touched on a nerve with some 170 owners. My next question - why hasn't someone done the paperwork to remove the vent? Honestly it provides nothing but drag, stains all over the wing and possible water in the fuel. The only place this belongs is either somewhere where it is...

Fuel Tank Vent - necessary???
One of the things I noticed when I purchased my 170 last year is that the previous owner had installed a plug onto the fuel vent on top of the wing. I asked him why - he stated that with the regular standard fuel caps (not vented) - he was experiencing fuel venting all over the top of the wing. So i...

Where can I purchase a new starter engagement cable/handle
I am re-vamping my instrument panel - and in the course of doing this I needed to fully remove the starter engagement t-handle. The cable - right or wrong had a splice installed near the engagement arm for the starter. I had no other choice than to cut the cable at the splice. I do not want to put a...

Alaskan Bushwheel - Direct Replacement for Scott
Just a heads up - I recently replaced my tailwheel tire only to discover that a chunk was missing out of the wheel itself. Evidence says that it has been that way for awhile now. I wanted to replace the wheel - so now the hard part of locating a Scott 3200 wheel assembly. After getting frustrated wi...

170A Flap Spring Issues
To all, I am a brand new owner of a 1950 170A - I have had the plane for about two months now and have had a good opportunity to list all my likes and dislikes with the aircraft. Love the plane - love it's capabilities. Not so crazy about the flap setup. I noticed this problem on the pre - buy and k...
