Re: 75th Reunion Celebration group parking at Airventure 202

Hey everyone! Carl and I are coming to Airventure 2023 for the first time and we are excited! I sold my 170 baby back in March, so we are tent camping without the airplane sunshade. We have friends that are hardcore Airventure volunteers who are making room for us to camp near them at Homebuilt head...

Re: $100 Hamburger NORTH EAST (NY,NJ,PA,DE,VT,ME,CT,NH,MA,MD

For a great weekend getaway, fly to Elmira Corning Regional Airport (KELM). Park on the ramp at Atlantic Aviation and pick up a rental car at the terminal. There are plenty of hotels in the area; we stayed at Holiday Inn Express in Horseheads and we recommend it for value, quality and location. Ther...

Airpark Communities

It's been a few years since this topic was discussed, so I figured it was time for an update. Gahorn and Olepokey gave some excellent advice in previous thread (http://www.cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7738&p=68477&hilit=airpark+community#p68457). Bruce, feel free to create a ...

Re: Original Equipment List

As always, this forum has been a great help! Bruce, I have a login to Cessna's Service 'forum' and was able to see a list of the revision dates of operating manual and flight limitations for my aircraft type, and to also download a copy for my personal POH binder (didn't have latest version, so this...

Original Equipment List

My hubby is ready to take his PPL checkride. However, the examiner had all sorts of questions about my 170B and its logbooks. He asked for flight manual revisions and updated flight limitations. I have that info from Cessna. I even got on their email list for updates. But one of the documents he wan...

Re: Control Yokes

Thank you, Ole Pokey! A yoke replacement is just a wish list item for now. My focus is on the must-have list right now----such as a correct oil temp gauge.

Re: Control Yokes

I agree those black yokes with the laser etched Cessna logo are VERY nice! For me, I am considering a non-original <gasp> yoke with shaped grips, something like yokes from the 177 Cardinal. Do you have any yoke replacement tips & tricks you could share with me?

Re: $100 Hamburger NORTHWEST (WA,OR,ID,WY,MT)

Has anyone flown to the San Juan Islands northwest of Seattle? Looks like a great fly-in destination. Friday Harbor has a listing on funplacestofly.com. Just wondering if any 170s have visited.

Re: Cylinder break-in tips needed

Thanks for all the advice! Last weekend for the first flight, I minimized taxi time and runup then tookoff as normal. After climbout to about 1500-2000 AGL, I throttled back to 2200 RPM and did wide circles around the airport for 30 minutes - just in case. Then I flew low and medium-slow (i.e. kept ...

Cylinder break-in tips needed

My airplane is finally coming out of its first post-purchase annual. The #2 cylinder finally failed, needed a carb overhaul, had an exhaust leak, needed a new tire, etc. etc. Anyway, after a month and a lot of money, I will be flying this weekend. My mechanic replaced my normal synthetic multi-grade...

Re: Cessna 170 Loan Issues

As you can see in the most recent 170 newsletter, I went through the purchase routine for the first time just a few months ago. I was inspired by Bill's 3958V ragwing, and ended up with a 1955 170B model. I agree with the emotional need of finding the right "it". Luckily - and intentionall...

Re: Flap Handle Extender Bar

Thanks, everyone, for the useful comments. By the way, I did search for previous posts about the extender bar but didn't find anything so I figured the topic was new. I agree releasing flaps is not a problem, but depressing the button (really - push it with a foot???) and pulling the bar was nearly ...

Flap Handle Extender Bar

I'm a new 170 owner and have found it difficult to reach the flap bar without almost completely removing my right harness strap. There is a "Johnson Bar" extender at Aircraft Spruce which supposedly helps with this issue. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/ezflap.php?clickkey=47...
