Re: Apple IPad Mini review
Flew my first CC w/the iPad mini yoke mount and it performed well. Visibility and access were great and no effect on the feel of the airplane. More to follow after a weekend in the Idaho BC.

Re: Apple IPad Mini review
Interesting timing. I just bought an iPad mini last week (4G+WiFi+GPS) and spent the weekend working it into my flight routine. For the last year I've been using WingX on my iPhone 5 and now have switched to Foreflight on the iPad mini. I'm using a yoke mount system and so far the entire setup is te...

Re: Sheared Rivits in both Main Gear Boxes
FWIW, when I converted my '56 C182 to C182TW in 2011, had to install new inboard and outboard gear boxes as well as a new floor above the landing gear bulkheads and a new belly skin below. The only way to gain access to drive the rivets was to detach and roll up the entire floor forward of the rear ...

Re: dimmer rheostat
I removed the panel light dimmer from my '48 C170, so if anyone would like to give it a new home, feel free to make a reasonable offer. It worked when removed and I have no reason to believe it's not original equipment. That said, I'll gladly send pix and part numbers to anyone who asks so you can v...

Re: Cabin Entry Step
If the C170 is anything like the early C180's, the very top of the entry step attaches to a structural bolt that runs through the outboard seat rail. I would replace both the nut and bolt at changeover. Also, the rivets that attach the plate to the outside of the fuselage may be replaced with struct...

Re: Pattern procedures
In my '48 at neighborhood airports I fly pattern altitude (1000' AGL) offset by about .6 mile (I.e., the runway is even with middle of my strut). Abeam the numbers, I pull power to between 1200-1500 rpm, apply carb heat and pitch for 90 mph so I can pull 30 degrees (all) of flaps. I don't see a need...

Re: Rear Seat Removal
FWIW, I took the rear seat out of my '48 C170 at the last annual (12/12), with my A&P/IA's blessing and a logbook entry. Am also carrying a revised weight & balance. I ran around for years with the same configuration in a C182 and then a C180 and never had an issue with the FAA, even through...

Thanks, Bruce. I'll report back when I get real-world numbers so we can include them in the repository of knowledge.

Re: Step kit
FWIW, I have a step & handle kit from Atlee Dodge that I never got around to installing on my C-180 that I would sell (60% of retail + shipping).

Re: What drive belt for Airborne vacuum pump?
FYI, the nose bowl currently on the airplane is P/N 0552010-4 and came from a 1961 or 1962 C172.

Re: What drive belt for Airborne vacuum pump?
Thanks, George. Does the association have the vacuum pump STC that applies to the C-170?

Re: What drive belt for Airborne vacuum pump?
Thanks, fellas. What I'm looking for is the vacuum pump STC that applies to the C170. My ulterior motive is documentation permitting installation of an early-model C-172 nose bowl on a C-170, which is what's on the airplane I'm trying to buy. Any ideas?
