Re: Painting my gear legs

I knew there was a good reason not to do the powder coating! I think I will pay the money and go with the epoxy prime. If the legs were still on the plane perhaps rust oleum would be a good option. Thanks everyone for all the input. The 170 assosiation is awesome, and should be mandatory for a proud...

Re: Painting my gear legs

I have priced out a two part primer epoxy that including the hardener comes to around 160.00 for a gallon! Just wondering has anyone powder coated gear legs before? It seems like it could be a good option but I am sure there is a good reason not to do it...

Re: Painting my gear legs

Thanks for the good advise, my legs have been tested and re certified. I am now getting ready to paint them so I can put the legs on the plane. I do have a pponk kit installed. Bigrenna can you please explain in more detail how you use grease plates to adjust the Toe and Camber of the gear?

Painting my gear legs

I am in the process of replacing my landing gear. I was looking for some advise on what kind of primer and paint to use? The legs have been plastic beed stripped of all paint, so I am starting with bare metal.
Thanks for the advise.

Landing light

Has anyone had there landing light stuck down and on? I went to do a night flight today and when I extended the landing light down it came down and then would not turn off or retract back up. I have a 48 170 and the switch is one of the piano switches.

Exhaust muff spacers

Hello everyone. I am looking for two spacers that go around the exhaust pipe at the top end of the muffler. They are a spacer that the muff rests on. I found one in pieces yesterday when I was investigating why my cabin heat flapper was stuck open. Has this ever happened to anyone? I was also wonder...

Fuel

I just got an stc to run car gas in my 170. The manual says its best to use 80 octaine, and as you all know 100 low lead is the only aircraft fuel option now. I would think that regular non ethanol 87 octaine would be the next best thing? I am getting mixed opinions around the airport. I am a new pi...

I ordered them from aircraft spruce. I just ordered one for the same reason that it might not fit. I have not received it yet so I do not know for sure if it will fit. Do you think the sides could be ground down to fit in the hole?

Re: Panel lights

So I was able to get the bulb out by unloosining two screws on the back of the panel and access the bulb. It was not easy but I did It. Thanks Bruce, and thanks Richard for the tip to unloosining three screws it worked. I ordered a replacement led bulb to replace the ge bulb that I took out. I hope ...

Panel lights

I am still trying to replace a bulb on my 1948 170. I was told it was a spring clip, but when I look at the back there is just a tube that the back unscrews off of. Without having to take the whole front panel off is there any way to get the bulb out of the tube it's in. I can't believe it is this h...

Re: Panel lights

I'll try that thanks. I am pretty sure it's just a long tube that the back screws into and holds the bulb tight but I will try what you said and see. My 170 is a straight 1948 model
