Re: Recommendations for overhaul shops?

In the north east there is a 170 friendly shop that is a TCM authorized overhauler, he is a wealth of information and very knowledgeable on the 170, he can help with your decisions, he likes talking airplanes, he may be able to direct you to a shop that will be convenient to you. He is the one that ...

Re: Plastic parts, Airbus V Boeing split- cleaning out my 17

Just going to put my finger in the pie and say that in the past 30 years I worked on a many Boeings, Douglas's and Airbus, all have their weak points and strong points. seen stuff that will turn you "" "". I give Boeing thumbs up for structure, Airbus for ingenuity, and douglas f...

Re: MT Constant speed prop for 0-300

If nothing else, they sure are pretty. Do you know the guy that owns that one? If you know the owner, can we talk him into giving us a review compared to what he had before? Better yet, could he swap it with a metal one and compare? I was there for the test flights, I knowthe the guy who flew it wh...

Re: MT Constant speed prop for 0-300

quick note on prop swap, I bought 09V with a a em53 (6 bolt) pitched it to a 50. from time to time i would try to borrow a 53 if i was to to a long trip, my speeds were at 2500rpm were 108 mph vs 122 mph. while seeing higher numbers on the speedo was cool, the time it took to swap install and track ...

Re: Getting My PPL, What will be the hardest part???

I would like to add that don't be afraid to ask the examiner to clarify or to re explain what he is asking you to do. I was performing a approach for my instrument check ride, it wasn't a published approach, it was something he made up due, a dme arc to a fictitious airport, he had drawn it out on a...

Re: Batteries

last year I put a gill sealed battery in the 170, turned out that if it sat for more than 3 weeks I would be hand proppin. one week fine, two weeks fine, but never could get past 3 weeks before it would barely get the engine to move thru 1 compression. about that time my 172 that i lease to a flight...

Re: Generator not keeping up with the load

I just installed the whelen par 46 led to replace my 250w incandescent, i was hesitant at first wasn't sure if it was going to perform as well, but my main concern especially after a few night landings with a burn out bulb, i was willing to try. I was mildly surprised, it seams to be a little bright...

Re: carburetor overhaul, exchange, or repair

There is a service bulletin SB-17 that addresses this problem, I have a C172 with a ma4spa that had this problem, and after servicing that carb twice, I went with a Marvel Shebler overhauled unit, I was nicely done and the Skyhawk never ran this good before. Funny thin was the core was just as much ...

Re: aileron rigging vs trim - '48 170

The rig procedure should be in the owners manual, I have my 48 rigged pretty darn perfect, for me that is. my airplane was in pieces for about two years, and in that time somehow ( Lauren ) the lift struts got swapped. first test flight was interesting to say the least. preliminary rig was per owner...

But I do have a question for the VG flier's is there a cruise performance penalty that you notice, even thought my airplane has r...

Re: Recommendations on where to buy new tires for 170B

Just replaced my michellan aviators with new ones (700x6) after 8 years...480 hrs....gazillion landings bought from desser. my 172 leaseback has the monster retreads on them, I dont have to worry about dryrot, they burn the tread off them fast enough, however they use premium tire carcass for their ...
