Dennis, all the detail are at xmradio.com but to get the complete story I found I needed to talk with someone on the phone. A few of the details XM didn't tell me until I asked are. 1.There is no contract-you can cancel at any time 2. You can upgrade or downgrade between the $50 and $30 service any ...

The 496 does show cloud layers. You are able to go to a seperate screen that will overlay the cloud information over the map only and not mix in other things to possibly cluttter the screen. From this specific screen you can choose different altitudes and the 496 shows you the cloud coverage at that...

Below are a few posts I put on the 180 chat club about the 496. Hope you find it helpful. Just got my 496 in the mail. Paying the expensive package monthly($50.00) to XM Radio. The power and ability of this little machine is ridiculous. There is no information that you can get from 800-WX-brief that...

wow, those are impressive speeds with 31 inch bushwheels. 147 mph is 128 knots, which is very fast for any 170. I'll be flying to AK for a month in June 08. Maybe we can get together and see who's bird is faster and who can get off shorter. I love the 170 but my 54 180 is hard to beat. If you are ev...

ak2711c, is your cruise really faster than a C180? I'd love to hear more about it. I used to have a 55 B model but I sold it and now I have a 54 180. Everything similar I cruised 100ish knots in the 170 and I now cruise 135ish knots in the 180. Are you faster than that? If you are, more power to you...

George, why didn't you sue the guy who dropped his plane on your Aeronca? Lots of lawyers would have taken that case for a third of the judgement and it would have gotten you some condiseration had you won.

If you need MUCH better performance it is hard to beat the C-180 route. Get off short, climb at 1200fpm from sea level at gross (my real world numbers). I flight plan for 130 knots at 23 squared burning 11.65 gph (this is my average over the past 250 hours of operation). According to the book number...

Since Lockheed-Martin took over I have gotten much better service here in VA. We don't always get Leesburg but we get rolled over reasonably fast to the next closest FSS who has the shortest phone line wait. I fly a lot of IFR and in my oppinion the briefings have been professional and thorough.

Or,, instead of this conversion, someone could buy an early 180, put 170 tail feathers on in and paint cessna 170 on the side. Then at the big flyins the question could be to figure out what it really is? If my 180 had 170 tail feathers, then I would have everything!!!!!!!

With many of us having paint jobs that are more old than new our biggest problem is oxidation. I have found the best cleaner wax to be Meguires Cleaner Wax. I have used it over 20 times on my older paint job with no side effects. The easiest to use is the liquid kind that comes in a bottle for 5 or ...

My volume went out on my KX170B last year and I got charged more than I thought was fair........I think $45 for the part. Overall it is such a good radio. I fly a lot of IMC approaches with only my KX170B and my garmin 496.

I love listening to the NPR, especially the show, "Some things considered". Getting most of your news and facts from NPR is just like getting most of your news and fact from Fox News, or buying all your parts from Cessna. I get good perspectives and good laughs from all the above. Robbie 2...

What's safe for one pilot is not necessarily safe for another pilot. A loop and a spin can be 1 G maneuvers.

Flew just over 200 with the new factory reman in my 55 180 this year. Flying to work make so much sence on so many levels. About 25 in an A-36 and 25 in a 182. The few hours in charlie maples stagerwing and some time in a R22 were the highlights.
