Re: Fire Extinguishers
Most extinguisher installations use "adel" clamps to hold the fire ext. mount-bracket to the seat legs of the pilot seat. x2 Adel clamps hold a custom aluminum bracket to my co-pilot seat. It's easily reachable with my right hand, as well as for the passenger. The clasp on the extinguishe...

Re: 2008 Wandering
That "creek" is the Coquille River. It's huge! Zero/zero in the mornings at Powers are par for the course, given that it's in the Coquille River valley, which directly connects to the ocean. It's a neat place.

Also, the PHPBB software should default to launching a popup notifying you that you have unread messages, if you are logged in when you check the forum (you can confirm this by going to your User Control Panel ). However, if you have a popup blocker running, whether aftermarket or the built-in featu...

Re: 2008 Wandering
SloPoke, I'm not sure how much time you have on your trip, but if you want a secluded camping experience, try Powers (6S6) just inland from Bandon. It's a short hop from Gold Beach and has a nice grass runway with a mowed camping area. I'm headed down to Grants Pass on Wednesday evening to prep my 1...

Re: Trip out West - 6/21/08
Very jealous, Dave. Make sure you let us know how that Leadville takeoff went.
A 206 is like an elephant...they sure are fun to look at but you wouldn't want to own one. Er...wait maybe that is a scooter/heavy girl: They sure are fun to ride until your buddies catch you...

Re: Parking Brake
Risk vs reward.
There's not much risk in removing the parking brake, and not much reward in leaving it in, either.
There is risk in leaving it operational, though.

Re: New exhaust tailpipes don't quite fit
I had a similar problem at my last annual. Replaced the heater side muffler and one of the risers. Reassembled, the stack didn't quite have the clearance from the cowling pass-through hole that I would have liked, in fact it was touching. Solved it by rotating the index of the stack at the connectio...

Re: Precision Airmotive Ceases Carburetor Production
I think the fact that you can get nearly $40 million in a judgment against a small manufacturer is the problem.

Re: Parking Brake
I didn't think twice on this one. A reasonable IA should be able to see the situation for what it is. This particular parking brake design introduces more risk than reward while operational.

Re: Moose Stall
One thing that is a common crew concept is the "NO" vote, one "NO" overules in an abnormal situation, meaning the most conservative and safest action should be followed. This is exactly what I discuss with a new-to-me pilot before I ride with them. As you can imagine it's much m...

Re: Frame/Wing Fatigue/Life
So far ALL of the wings for 170's and early 172's that I have worked on have had intergranular corrossion issues in the main spar. Brian- Isn't intragranular corrosion the type that begins internally in the material, and doesn't present itself until it radically distorts the material, like a water-...
