Re: ADS B
It is the way of electronics. The latest gizmo selling for $500 will sell for $99 and be 4 versions down the road by 2020. Why in the world would anyone spend $5000 now on a piece of equipment that shouldn't be more than $500 now. In 4 years these will be up to their 4 iteration and maybe, just may...

Re: ADS B
Equally unbelievable how money based the change is. The price difference between TSO and non-certified equipment is indefensible.marathonrunner wrote: Unbelievable how resistant to change we seem to be when it is primarily money based

Re: ADS B
You are correct, it will only display other aircraft with ADS-B Out so you must factor that in to your decision making. Well, it will display other transponder equipped traffic too...depending...there are two scenarios and both require another ADS-B aircraft to be nearby. If there is no ground stat...

If you expect you may run into AAA HEI rounds, I highly recommend it.
It's been fitted to C-130 aircraft since the late '60s and works well.

Re: Bad news - free advice sought
Mine was last O/H in 1959 and has around 1100 hours now - still makes great oil pressure, good compressions (all in 70s), and runs flawlessly (knock on wood). It never sat - there were years where it didn't fly much at all, but it always flew...a little. I think that's more important...engines are ...

Re: Bad news - free advice sought
Engine is around 1000 hrs and last major was 1963. I think it's time. Fifty Three Years since overhaul? That's gotta be a record. Re: EAA, Dynon announce STC for Cessna, Piper aircraft
For an emergency get-me-down backup, it's hard to beat the Dynon D2. It's half the price, or better, and portable.

I just asked this same question...nippaero wrote: Now, can someone educate me on what this lever actually does? It is not connected to anything.

It would be neat to find a prop that used this!

a few landings in a good breeze amongst the tree-lined runway kept things interesting enough. :

Re: Yoke vs Stick
I think you need to hang on to the yoke differently. I had this discussion with a friend of mine who didn't like the "old fashioned" control yoke but wanted to change to "new" open U control yokes. I fly by laying my left wrist on top of the yoke and grasping the top of the loop...

Yoke vs Stick
I've recently been flying my new 170 - what a nice handling plane! I really am enjoying it, so don't take this next bit out of context!! I remember what I dislike about yokes from the time I started my private flying in 150/152/172 and my time in Mooneys....the yoke. It is not a naturally coo...

Re: What is this lever on my engine?
I'm not worried about the legality, it is a C145, so it must be the 2H as described which is in the TCDS. The s/n of the engine is in the first page of the original logs and is the same serial number on the last page of the current logs. I believe the engine to be original to the plane and legal. I ...

What is this lever on my engine?
:?: So, I've got my new (to me) 1953 C170B finally. As I was crawling all over it again since I looked at it in early Jan, I noticed this lever on the crankcase near the front on the pilot's side. The picture is taken through the cowl opening on the pilot's side. It is safety-wired full up/aft (if i...
