Re: Replace headliner
Hi, Bill - you can order them from Airtex (https://www.airtexinteriors.com/) in either vinyl or wool. I've been very happy with ours. Brian I installed Airtex years ago and like it. Not hard to do with some patience. I chose wool because once it is installed you can take the wrinkles out by sprayin...

Re: climb prop question
Well I didn’t realize the SA7441SA was so restrctive of propellers and have been running aMcCauley Model 1A175 in 80/40 since purchasing the plane. Great performance but a 95mph cruise is about the best it gets with 8:50 tires I've been running an 80/43 for the 35+ years that I've owned my 170B. It...

Re: One more trip with my 170B ?
I know it may sound too good to be true, and I know how they push numbers but they claim it went from 7-1 to 13-1. Best glide speed is 57 mph with the kit. I know if my engine quit I'd be glad I've got it however...

Re: One more trip with my 170B ?
The Original Cessna wing is a great design without a doubt. However, the Sportsman STOL is one heck of an improvement. In slow flight, climb and glide it is a real performer. The best glide ratio almost doubled. Not claiming to be an expert at anything but I have flown my 170 for 26 years without th...

Re: Tail U-Bolt
Mine broke about 20 years ago and while I was starting to go down the rabbit hole to find one I used some aluminum flat bar, one on top and one on the bottom, drilled holes for two bolts to go one on each side. I think I remember doing some dressing out on the pieces to make them a fit perfect and w...

Re: Five weeks of adventure with my Super 170
When I made my annual trip to Johnson Creek last year I discovered that the new caretaker is one of our long standing 170 members! You'll feel right at home!

Re: Five weeks of adventure with my Super 170
Hi there! Moose Creek is one of my favorite spots to camp. I lived and grew up in Washington State and discovered the Idaho back country about 34 years ago in my '53 170B. I vowed that when I retired I'd move to Idaho. A year and a half ago I retired at the age of 65 and within one week I was living...

Re: Aircraft Moving Dolly (Dollies?)
That's great! I've always thought about fabricating some but never got around to it. Don't scratch them wheel pants! I think I sold them to you... I can't remember for sure. I know I sold you some wing tips when I put my Sportsman kit on.

Re: New Flap Tracks
Ah…you got me Bruce, yes the measure is a variable measure dependant on the amount of quaffing going on :D The Maximum flap track wear dimension is .6035. If it is over this dimension anywhere in the track slot they recommend replacement. McFarland sells a gauge for $41.25 ( Part # 950) but I just ...

Re: Horizontal stab oil canning
Hi Nathaniel,
I noticed the RH horizontal doing the exact same thing on my '53 when we did the first annual on it. Scrutinized it about the same as you have yours. This May I'll be doing my 35th annual on the plane. After 3,000 hrs and 35 years I've decided not to loose sleep over it!

Re: brake hoses
I was paranoid about getting the wrong lengths also, so decided to remove every flexible hose on my plane, labeled them as what they were for, and sent them to Precision Hose to have them duplicated.

I had similar mag problems a while back. Mags only had 300 hours on them, sent them back for rebuild, still had problem with right mag. I noticed that if I wiggled the mag switch while doing a run up I got a slight fluctuation.... I disconnected the P-leads and did another run-up...Bingo! No problem...

Re: Johnson Creek Idaho
Looking at planning a trip to explore the Idaho backcountry, anyone fly into Johnson Creek with the stock O300? Not to worried so much about gettin in, it’s getting out that has me a little concerned. Here's an old cell phone video that my wife took several years ago landing there, quality sucks bu...
