Re: Perfect end to the day

I'm sure you've done a great service to Deacon. Hopefully, the bug has bitten him, and he will follow up and pursue, either just for personal enjoyment or as a career.

Re: Spoiler Alert

True, George. In this world, there are many things wrong that come from movies, TV or books. Just life, I guess.

Guess I don't feel very sorry for her. She, with all her experience, knew it was wrong and the implications of it. Guess Satan gave her a little push. Otherwise, sounds like she's had a great career and helped a lot of people. Hope she can get her Private back, or maybe BasicMed.

Re: Hangar Hanger?

From a Popular Mechanics 1940 issue later reprinted in 2007, the only picture of hanging planes I've seen. Old timers at Lochhaven, Pa., home of the Piper factory, say there was a wheeled nose dolly built to allow the aircraft to be moved about the floor tail high to facilitate this. med_planes_on_...

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?

Got a new clock. A Wakeman 8 day. $30 and looks and runs great. Just got to put it in. If it lasts a year, still cheaper than an overhaul.

Re: Electrical Glitch

I would agree with the high resistance somewhere. Cable to battery, switch on starter? First places I would look. Finally, is your battery losing it? Sometime internal resistance increases, which would be cause for the gyro to slow down. Just a few things to check out.

Re: Who’s still using a C145?

Still running the original C-145 in my 1950 A Model. Due to low hours, it's only been overhauled once. Cylinders were honed and the pistons knurled, so those are original. Cam and lifters were scored, so those were replaced. As said, a great engine. Maybe older technology, but works for me.

Sure glad a few fly-ins are still happening. Last one we attended was the Brighton Open House. I remember Blakesburg from 1985 - was a great time.

Re: VOR Antenna location

I have the Narco antenna on top of the cabin - been there since 1952. I did remove and refurbish it in the 80's. Works great. Of course, I'm of the opinion that you can't improve on the 170 - mines an "A", and I try to keep it as original as practical. Love the key switches, round instrume...

Re: Wheel Pants Removal (And not replacing)

Good question. George or Bruce would have the best answer. I take mine off in the fall for winter flying. Don't want slush to freeze the wheels - might make for an exciting landing. Put them back on in the spring. I do make a log book entry with the W&B change. Smiln' Jack always said: "Sma...
