Re: RPM at Run-Up and take-off Roll

Thanks everyone for the valuable information. This organization is always most helpful. The almost new tach does have a problem and was factored into the RPM numbers I gave as confirmed by the tach on a prop balancer tool we used to compare against. The tach reads 130RPM low. I suspect the problem m...

RPM at Run-Up and take-off Roll

I am wondering if someone in the group who has a similar engine and prop can answer this question. The annual on my 1952 170B with the original engine (145hp) and a McCauley 7655 (cruse prop) was finished and when I went to do the take-off roll, it seamed sluggish and the RPM only got to about 2150-...

Re: Tail U-Bolt

George,

I may have been too fast in ordering.

I looked at the part number you gave for Aircraft Spruce and that is the main spring. I was asking about the U-Bolt.

Does the L-19 U-bolt #0642133 fir our birds? Because that is what I ordered.

Thanks

Tail U-Bolt

Hey All,
I am looking for a lead on where to get the tail wheel leaf spring U-Bolt #0510000-32 as mine is a bit bent up

I tried Univair, Stoddard, Yinling, Controller, and Ebay to no avail.

I suspect this may be a hard to find item.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Re: C170B Fuel Selector Valve

Thank you, Gary,
That helps a lot.

It is amazing how a relatively simple part can have so many ideas and procedures associated with it.

I printed a copy and will be handing it to my IA/AP to use a reference.

Thanks Again

C170B Fuel Selector Valve

I tried to search for this answer but must have been using the wrong words because I remember reading about this subject in the past, but I could not find it. My question is on my 1952 C170B, the fuel selector valve was found to leak externally during my annual. I remember there was a difficult proc...

Re: Dynamic Prop Balancing

When I bought my plane. The previous owner obtained the prop from an overhaul shop in North Carolina. Well, the prop was anything but balanced and the plane vibrated a fair amount. I had it balanced here in the Chicago area and as I also have the bullet spinner (not the really small one), they had t...

Re: Sand ingestion

As was said, the second analysis hopefully will look better. I am writing this because I had a case where the silicon was high and wear metals were also high and would not go down after time. Very long story short. Found it was from my hangar floor which at the time was gravel. Moved to a different ...

Re: Exactly WHAT IS….the “NACA”?

Oh, you bet.
In my younger days, I did a lot of work using the "Lift to Drag" tables of various airfoils that came from NACA data. Before being turned into NASA, they did a lot of much needed work.

Thanks

Pete,
I have a cruse prop and have regretted it on numerous occasions. Like short grass strips, obstacles at the end of a runway, ect...
A climb prop or something in-between will make the airplane a little slower but might be better in all around usage.

Re: Axle question.. 52 170B

when I had my first annual done on my 52 170B, they had found the angles of the wheels where off a fair amount. Which explained why the airplane was a really squirrelly on landing. We then made sure the gear legs where good and secure, raised the tail and measured all of the angles. Then had a CNC m...

Re: Chicago Pneumatic Rivet Squeezer

last time I used something like that, you varied the air pressure. Not very precision, but it was close and kind of repeatable.

Re: Melting Ice

Steve,
I think if the Schaumburg Airport manager found me using that in front of our expensive hangars, he'd faint. But otherwise that would be a workable idea.
Thanks

Re: Melting Ice

Bruce & George, I should have given more information in my post. I have no plans on putting anything on the airplane, I just wanted to remove an ice dam by my hangar door. But even though I would not be putting anything directly on the plane, I am cautious because I know some would eventually ge...
