I just wonder how they were installed when the planes came from the factory. Maybe that info is available somewhere(?)
But it's not a big deal.

How to install seat belts
I want to know how to install new seat belts for the front seat.
Should the buckles be on the right, left, or maybe inboard or outboard side?
Or does it really matter?

Re: oil leak at starter
Yesterday I reinstalled the starter and flew for an hour. No leaks! I have no idea what was wrong with the first set of seals Aerotech of Louisville installed.

Re: oil leak at starter
Mr. Grimsley had it right - it would indeed be the upper seal leaking that would allow oil to migrate into the starter. I was thinking wrong about how it was set up. The starter and adapter plate with new seals and bushings are now back from Louisville, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed about oil l...

Re: oil leak at starter
OK, I read Mr. Grimsley's article. Near the end he says: "However, leaks around the upper seal will put crankcase oil inside the starter motor which could cause poor electrical contact." Unless I'm missing something, I would think it would be leaks around the lower seal that would put oil ...

Re: oil leak at starter
The starter had both oil seals replaced about 10 hours ago by Aerotech of Louisville. Because of the oil leakage getting down onto the alternator, I sent starter and adapter plate still together off to Aerotech of Louisville. They said the starter was "full of oil". They miked the shafts a...

oil leak at starter
Can oil pressure set too high cause oil leakage past the seals at the starter shafts on an O-300 engine?

Re: Univair tail spring
At the bottom of page two I said that I thought the three springs were the same thickness. So much for my powers of observation - they're different. I measured the combined thickness of the 3 lower leaves in the 4 leaf stack I bought from Univair and got .810". That contrasted with .640" f...

Re: Univair tail spring
Bushing is in place in the front holes in the leaves. Bolt and nut are new. The 3 leaves in the picture
are part of the 4 leaf spring set I bought from Univair a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Univair tail spring
Yes, the leaves appear to be 3 different thicknesses, but I think that's due to how I held the camera. Mr. Dyer told me the tailsprings
he sells are the same thickness as the original Cessna parts. I'm guessing it's 6 gauge steel.

Re: Univair tail spring
In my original post I claimed that 3 leaves were a perfect fit, but as you can see from the attached very close up picuture
of my setup, there's a gap. About a fourth the thickness of a spring leaf - definitely not enough room for that 4th leaf.
I plan to insert an aluminum shim to close the gap.

Re: Univair tail spring
John, nice pictures of those tail spring mounting brackets. The one on the right looks like the one on my B. Looking at the pictures, I get the impression that the one on the left would have more room for spring leaves than the one on the right. If I can manage it I hope to take a picture of my set ...

Re: Univair tail spring
Maybe it's my imagination, but looking at your tailspring picture those leaves look thinner
than the ones Univair sent me. Did those 4 leaves come from Univair? Your coil springs look
like the ones I bought from Univair.

Re: Univair tail spring
Bruce, that's good news. But you must have a different parts manual than I have.
Mine, on page 54, shows the tailwheel spring for planes serial numbers 20806 and
on. My plane's serial number is 25174, so that picture should apply. It shows 4 leaves.
