I tried every brand of polish and I like Nuvite the best if you've got a lot of restoration to do. I started with their sampler kit with G6, F7, C, and S. It's gonna be a long time before I need the S!. Every plane is different and even different skins respond differently. My plane accumulated a lot...

My 170B has a gray wool Airtex headliner that was in it when I bought the plane. I recently installed Airtex leather & vinyl seat upholstery and side panels. I'm pleased with everything. The seats are done in the original pattern but I opted for all leather seating surfaces with no fabric. The s...

Thanks for good suggestions. I can afford the Garmin 430 because of all the money I'm saving by polishing instead of painting!? :? George, I missed the 1 in the trx- I have a Narco AT150 TSO. The 430 would be my first choice but it's hard to spend the 10G for a panel mount if there is a simpl...

There are as many tips as there are pilots. And many are very detailed starting on downwind. I generally do wheel landings unless needing a soft landing for a wet grass strip. My procedure (maybe over-simplified) is as follows: Get setup on downwind, with 10 degrees of flaps, trim to 80 mph Increase...

Flaps for TO and Landing

on my 1956 170B: I always use 10 degrees for take-off. For landing I put 10 degrees down on downwind - that makes the flap handle easy to reach later - even with the shoulder harness snug. Then I generally use: Stiff Xwinds - leave it at 10 degrees Normal LDG - 20 degrees turning base, begin final d...

IFR panel choices

It's time for a panel upgrade and I'm having trouble deciding how far to go. I plan to keep my panel "original" with its newly rebuilt old style big AI and DG (dual venturi driven). The goal is to end up with an efficient panel suitable for occasional IFR. My home airport has an NDB approa...

It's finally finished!

Great website and great plane! I can appreciate just what time and effort you are investing. I'm in the middle of the same project. Polishing is tedious but rewarding. Are you using the Nuvite system? I'd like to swap any polishing tips based on your experiences.

I have a 56 170B that came with a control lock. It is fabricated from sheet aluminum, hooks around the lower part of the pilot yoke and secures to a small right angle clip on the floorboard in front of the pilot seat, and if I recall, at the rudder pedals. If that's the type you are researching, I'l...

The photo gallery is great - but the login and passwords needs some work. I was able to make changes in any photo and I'm not logged in. I did no harm but this should be prevented from occurring.

No question, a Skylane is more practical than a 170 (if the word practical and airplane can be used together). The 170 wins all bets of the heart over the 170: - looks, on the ground or in the air. - handling, much lighter, a more "willing" partner - visibility, the panel is low and out of...
