An AP friend says you want to get the oil temp above 160 once and a while to boil off the acids in the oil?? Duct tape, duct tape, and more duct tape. Oil 15w-50 year round. As temps drop in the fall 1st. Blast tubes on rear baffle taped up. 2nd. Oil cooler hole on from nose bowl (this is progressiv...

Upside down yoke?
I saw some photos of 170's with the yokes upside down. Can you just pull the bolt below and rotate the yoke 180 and replace bolt. Being 6'4" the lower part of the yoke hits my legs and even worst when bundled up for winter flying. http://www.c170.com/albums/19A-in-AK/Yoke_copy.jpg Thanks, Paul

The problem is more predominant when cold. I preheat with a small electric heater and a timer switch, I usually set it to turn on 4 hours before flying (when away from electricity I use a small catalectic propane heater and let it run all night), the oil drips freely from the dipstick and is warm to...

Ski Bracket I.D.
I will try posting this picture. Can anyone tell me if these are a cessna part or from one of the ski manufacturers. I could not find them in the IPC.

Just got back from a weekend Moose hunt flew out friday landed on a nice little lake up at 4200' (thought we'd be above the cold weather) set up camp then the temp dropped to -30F. Not as much fun at that temp but survivable. Any way this is how I operate in the cold, mostly stuff picked up from oth...

Slow oil pressure gauge.
My oil pressure gauge is very slow to rise when first starting my plane. It is considerably worse in the cold. In warm weather when starting pressure would come up to about 10 psi then pop up to normal range. In cold weather when starting it hovers just above red line then creeps up to normal over f...

What year 172's for parts?
It looks like the 56' to 59' 172's would provide a lot of used parts for a 170. What year did they change the fuselage, like the step firewall. Looking at classifieds looks like the cowls stayed the same for a few years, unless folks are useing older cowls like the 53's. I tryed looking up in old th...

Bartone / Benham Exhuast Pics
Anyone have any pictures of the Bartone or Benham exhause pipes? Installed, cowls on, cowls off, uninstalled. Are they two extentions that exit out the lower back cowl or do they join to have one pipe exiting in the rear? Any 170's in the Fairbanks Area have them?
Thanks for any info. or pics.
